The Volkswagen Group announced large-scale staff reductions following a sharp drop in profits. By the end of 2025, net profit had almost halved to 6.9 billion euros, the worst result since 2016. The company now plans to cut about 50,000 jobs in Germany by 2030, expanding the previously agreed program to reduce 35,000 positions.

Group CEO Oliver Blume explained that the measures are due to falling profitability, US tariffs, and problems with the Porsche brand. CFO Arno Antlitz stated that profitability remains too low and “this is not enough in the long run.”

Group revenue remained nearly unchanged at about 322 billion euros, with sales of approximately nine million vehicles. Demand rose in Europe and South America but fell in China and North America. Volkswagen also reported a rapid increase in electric car sales, though the shift to electric models is currently reducing business profitability.

99.5% of Democrats voted against voter ID, a proposal that has 83% support.
