CLEVELAND, Ohio
The Cleveland PD said they were called to near west side Monday night due to an “electrical event,” which knocked out power for hundreds of Cleveland Public Power customers.
Firefighters were called to the area of 4200 block of Fenwick Ave just before 7 p.m. for a house fire. That’s when reports of a transformer explosion came in, as well as multiple downed power lines across the road.
Multiple roads were blocked off to traffic as crews responded to what fire officials called a “critical emergency.”
As of 8:30 p.m., the house fire was under control, but Cleveland firefighters confirmed there was a gas fire at the house. Enbridge reportedly shut off the gas for the entire street.
Fire companies at the scene had to go door to door to check electric meters for issues. Some of the electric meters were even blown off of houses, according to CDF.

WHEELING, West Virginia
The Washington Avenue Bridge over Wheeling Creek collapsed around 2 p.m., sending 3 workers to the hospital.
One of those injured was serious, the other 2 suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The bridge was closed to traffic for repairs on Dec 2nd. Construction crews were on the bridge today when it gave way along with construction equipment.
“Workers were on the bridge dismantling it and all of a sudden, the bridge collapses and falls into the creek below,” said Wheeling PD Public Information Officer Phillip Stahl. “We’re not really sure what transpired during those events, but there were 3 workers, one of them in a dump truck, the other in an excavator, and a third person on the bridge deck itself.”
Stahl said the workers were removing the bridge deck and were somewhere in the middle of the bridge when it collapsed. He was not able to confirm exactly what part of the bridge gave way.
