A forest fire destroyed part of a historic town from the California Gold Rush era.

According to CALFIRE, as of Wednesday evening, the fire had burned an area of 5,500 hectares.

The fire destroyed several buildings in the town of China Camp. China Camp is a historic town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, with a history dating back to the California Gold Rush.
