Manhattan: East 51st Street & Park Avenue, an active shooter situation is currently unfolding in Midtown Manhattan. Multiple civilians are sheltering inside the Blackstone buildings as police respond to the scene.
The NYPD has declared a Level 3 mobilization. Heavy weapons teams are inside the buildings, securing civilians and searching for the suspect.
Preliminary reports indicate the shooter is a Middle Eastern male armed with an assault rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest. One police officer has been shot. His condition is not vet known.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area. The situation remains active and developing.
