A strong 6.3 mag earthquake struck northern Ecuador on Friday. The epicenter was located NE of Esmeraldas, at a depth of 35 km, according to the USGS.

The National Secretariat for Risk Management reported that the earthquake was felt in at least 56 cantons across the country, & that power outages occurred in the cities affected by the quake.

Update: 29 injured & around 60 homes & structures damaged by the 6.3 mag earthquake that struck Ecuador on Friday morning. Work and classes have been suspended. Power outages and telecommunications problems have been reported.

The roof of the Carlos Ricardo Plaza coliseum in Esmeraldas has also collapsed.

BATTLE CREEK, Michigan

A portion of Riverside Dr will be closed until further notice due to a sinkhole that collapsed a section of the road Friday morning.

The collapse happened shortly after 1 a.m. as city crews were wrapping up sewer repair work. The collapsed section of the road measures roughly 25 feet x 20 feet.

One car reportedly sustained damage, but no injuries were reported, according to city officials.

CANTON, Ohio

The City of Canton issued a notice Friday about an immediate road closure due to a safety issue.

According to a press release, 15th St. NW is closed from Woodland Ave. and Cleveland Ave.

The city says it’s due to subsidence, which means that part of the road is caving in.

Engineers are working to figure out what is causing the issue, so they can begin making repairs.

There is no word on when the road might reopen.
