1st run 54 out of 55 hatched. Have 170 duck eggs just starting to harch. This run we did 225 total. Mainly ducks.

Next run were doing all chickens

We do about 250 tops per batch, but I'm converting my grow rooms into breeding rooms.

I always candle them around days 8-10 if I see nothing I remove the egg and consolidate incubators and fill back up. All my eggs are 100% fertile every time

We picked up a chicken coop yesterday. It will be our first and it is a summer coop because it isn't insulated but we will be building a winter coop during the summer. :D

Chicks around me are ranging 7-15 a pop in stores. Absolutely ridiculous. The manufactured egg shortage Is going to hit breeders next, so fucking hard it'll cost 20 plus a chick. My local store sells out in 20 minutes flat every time they set chicks out

In Canada a major chicken supplier, pevy mart, just closed down. They sold $5 CAD birds but vaccinated - with a 10-15% random mortality rate on those birds.

With them gone, I am seeing 10-15$ a chick starting with pullets approaching 25-50 based on breed.

I have orders for over 100 birds this year. Expanding my coop and run.. all my birds are multi generational no vaccine no medicated feed no big store feed.

Mm 10-15% mortality rate with vaccines is super high. Yeah on local forums around here roosters are 25 a pop now

Same here. Barnyard Mixes (brown layers) are going for ~$5-7 for straight run, Easter Eggers are going for $7-10, and pure breeds are going for $10-20 depending on the breed. The Silverrudds, Lavender Ameraucanas, Cream Legbars, and Black Copper Marans are running $15-25 each for <1 week old, with the price going up $3-5/week afterwards.
I tossed a bunch of my own coop's fertilized eggs in the incubator (none of my hens are broody) and I've got a waiting list for Easter Eggers.
