WATERLOO, Iowa

First responders are at the scene of a home explosion in Waterloo early Wednesday morning.

Neighbors in the area on Sager Avenue, near Becker Elementary, told TV9 they heard what sounded like an explosion bw 2 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.

Waterloo Fire Battalion Chief Ben Petersen told TV9 one person is unaccounted for, and there is one victim, a man, but we don’t know his condition.

Petersen added that there was a large explosion, and after that crews found a small gas leak and a small fire.

Mid-American is reporting more than 250 people are without power in the area. Officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion.

At least 6 laborers are feared dead after a 6-story under-construction building collapsed in Bhadrachalam on Wednesday afternoon, according to regional media reports. Several others were injured, and rescue operations are ongoing to locate those still trapped under the rubble.
