BREAKING: At approximately 2200 EST, an explosion occurred at SPS Technologies on the 300 block of Highland Avenue in Jenkintown, PA, following a two-alarm fire that trapped up to 60 employees and produced heavy smoke. This was a significant explosion felt more than 20 miles away. No word yet on first responder casualties.

The SPS plant in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, has a long history dating back to the early 1970s when it began as a modest manufacturing facility specializing in custom-engineered industrial components. Over the decades, the facility expanded significantly and now spans more than 300,000 square feet. It is owned by SPS Corporation, a well-established leader in industrial manufacturing, and is operated by the SPS Operations Group. Today, the plant employs around 200 skilled workers, including engineers, machinists, and support personnel.

The facility provides a range of services, including precision machining, component assembly, and rigorous testing, serving major customers across aerospace, automotive, and industrial sectors. Over the years, the SPS plant has secured key multi-year contracts with high-profile companies such as Boeing, General Motors, and Siemens, among others. Its product portfolio includes precision-machined metal parts, complex electronic assemblies, and custom-fabricated assemblies.

This plant is a contributor to the U.S. Defense Industrial Base through more than 84M USD in contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense through DLA, the Navy, and the Defense Contract Management Agency. An investigation has not begun as this is still an active emergency.
