COLUMBIA FALLS, Montana
The Columbia Falls Weyerhaeuser MDF plant was rocked by an explosion and fire about 7:50 a.m. Wed morning.
The explosion appears to have been caused by an electrical arc in the power distribution center which runs both lines of the plant, Columbia Falls Fire Chief Karl Weeks said.
No one was injured in the blast, which blew walls out of the building and garage doors off their hinges.
The electrical surge at the time was so great that Flathead Electric Co-op noticed the power draw on the grid, Weeks said.
A man who was driving his children to school said he saw a fire ball rise 200 feet into the air at the time of the explosion.
The call came in at 7:51 a.m. & firefighters battled active fire inside the building until 12:51 p.m. and were still on the scene hitting hot spots at 4 p.m.

BROKEN BOW, Nebraska
Thurs morning started with many Broken Bow citizens being awakened by the sound of what they are describing as “4 big bangs”. Those bangs would later be confirmed as an explosion at the downtown power plant location.
Custer Co Sheriff’s Office has asked that citizens stay clear of the downtown area as first responders work to extinguish the flames.
Smoke could be seen in the air from far around the downtown area throughout the morning.
Many businesses that first reported outages have said their power has been restored.
The explosion is believed to be as a result of cold temps putting a significant stress on the city’s power system.
Several citizens had indicating hearing the ground “pop” as a result of the dropping temperatures overnight.

BOSTON, Massachusetts
Shuttle buses briefly replaced service on part of the Green Line on Thursday morning after a maintenance vehicle derailed overnight in downtown Boston, officials said.
A vehicle used for track maintenance derailed at Government Center, prompting about an hourlong disruption in service ahead of the height of the morning commute, the MBTA announced just after 5:45 a.m.
Buses were replacing trains between Copley and Haymarket stations but service was restored shortly after 6:30 a.m.

A twin explosion on Wednesday night rocked 2 flow stations near the Cawthorne Channel off the coast of Bonny in Rivers State, raising fears of casualties.
The blasts reportedly destroyed several facilities at the flow station, located around 30 nautical miles from Bonny’s coastline.
The Cawthorne Channel is a major hub for oil and gas facilities, situated near the boundary between Bonny and Degema Local Government Areas in Rivers State.
Officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited were reportedly alerted by locals and visited the site.

KY 80 in Perry Co has been closed at mile point 5.71 due to a break in the pavement, which has deteriorated to the point that the road has been deemed unsafe for travel.
The said the closure is bw KY 2021 (Couchtown Rd) and the bridge crossing the North Fork of the Kentucky River.
According to the release, significant repairs will be required to make the road safe for travel again, and there has not yet been a timetable established regarding the repair or reopening of the roadway.
The break was caused by heavy rainfall and flooding on Saturday, the release states.
