BRISTOL, Virginia

Several train cars went off the tracks in Bristol, Virginia, on Wednesday.

The derailment in the area of Scott Street partially blocked Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

5 cars, which were not carrying hazardous materials, went off the tracks shortly after 10 a.m., according to Norfolk Southern.

Bristol Virginia PD Captain Maynard Ratcliff told News 5 that Norfolk Southern is planning to bring in a crane to right the train cars. The tracks will then need to be repaired.

Scott Street is closed, and one lane of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard is also closed in the area.

BLANKET, Texas

On Saturday night at around 10:30 p.m., the back wall of The Pearl Cactus Steakhouse & Saloon collapsed. 15 workers were inside. All were left without any injuries.  

Resident Ken Nabers had a family member inside the building that night. He said the incident was described as an earthquake.

“Saturday night, about 10:00 p.m., they heard a little bit of rumble outside. My sister was actually working at the store here and said that it’s like an earthquake happening. So when the whole wall crashed out, it came down in one piece and ripped a hole in the wall,” Nabers said. 

The damage scattered across the property is a reminder of the original building façade, which Nabers said the original structure has been standing for about 120 years. 

The reason for the collapse is still unknown.

COLUMBIA FALLS, Montana

The Columbia Falls Weyerhaeuser MDF plant was rocked by an explosion and fire about 7:50 a.m. Wed morning.

The explosion appears to have been caused by an electrical arc in the power distribution center which runs both lines of the plant, Columbia Falls Fire Chief Karl Weeks said.

No one was injured in the blast, which blew walls out of the building and garage doors off their hinges.

The electrical surge at the time was so great that Flathead Electric Co-op noticed the power draw on the grid, Weeks said.

A man who was driving his children to school said he saw a fire ball rise 200 feet into the air at the time of the explosion.

The call came in at 7:51 a.m. & firefighters battled active fire inside the building until 12:51 p.m. and were still on the scene hitting hot spots at 4 p.m.

BROKEN BOW, Nebraska

Thurs morning started with many Broken Bow citizens being awakened by the sound of what they are describing as “4 big bangs”. Those bangs would later be confirmed as an explosion at the downtown power plant location.

Custer Co Sheriff’s Office has asked that citizens stay clear of the downtown area as first responders work to extinguish the flames.

Smoke could be seen in the air from far around the downtown area throughout the morning.

Many businesses that first reported outages have said their power has been restored.

The explosion is believed to be as a result of cold temps putting a significant stress on the city’s power system.

Several citizens had indicating hearing the ground “pop” as a result of the dropping temperatures overnight.

BOSTON, Massachusetts

Shuttle buses briefly replaced service on part of the Green Line on Thursday morning after a maintenance vehicle derailed overnight in downtown Boston, officials said.

A vehicle used for track maintenance derailed at Government Center, prompting about an hourlong disruption in service ahead of the height of the morning commute, the MBTA announced just after 5:45 a.m.

Buses were replacing trains between Copley and Haymarket stations but service was restored shortly after 6:30 a.m.
