Multiple buildings were damaged after a home exploded Saturday in the west suburbs, officials said.

The explosion happened in the afternoon at a building in the 2200 block of Central Avenue in Cicero, officials said.

No one was inside the building at time of the explosion, but one family has been displaced from their home.

A neighboring building caught fire due to the explosion and another building was also damaged, officials.

Scientists warn that a far greater seismic threat is looming east of Greece. Istanbul, home to 16 million people, sits along a dangerous fault line where experts believe a mega-eq is long overdue.

Located at the junction of the Anatolian & Eurasian plates, the city is under constant geological strain.

Seismologist Naci Görür shares these concerns, warning that 100,000 buildings in Istanbul are at high risk of collapse in a major eq.

“Hundreds of thousands will die,” Görür told reporters, emphasizing that neither the local government nor residents seem to grasp the magnitude of the threat.

Geology professor Sükrü Ersoy warns that Istanbul is not prepared. Even with proper urban planning, the city’s dense population makes it difficult to mitigate damage.

The Turkish Urban Development Minister has also admitted that Istanbul’s infrastructure would struggle to withstand a powerful eq.

Firefighters are investigating a reported transformer explosion near the utility pole fire. Firefighters confirmed power is cut to the burning utility pole. Occupants are being evacuated due to high CO levels.

Feb 15 a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of AJK, with its epicenter located near DHA 2 and Bahria Town, approx 8 km SE of Rawalpindi at a depth of 17 km.

Residents reported experiencing a strange pattern of tremors, describing two loud noises followed by two jolts and nearly 20 seconds of fading shockwaves. Many initially mistook the tremors for heavy machinery movement before realizing it was an earthquake.

No casualties or damage have been reported so far. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
