San Diego law enforcement agencies have arrested 39 violent criminals with ties to the Mexican Mafia in a major operation targeting organized crime in the county.
District Attorney Summer Stephan announced the arrests, which included charges of murder, attempted murder, arson, extortion, and weapons and drug trafficking. Many of the suspects were arraigned Tuesday afternoon.

Inferno in Grozny: Heroic Chechen firefighters save the day
In the heart of Grozny, a raging fire engulfed a two-story store, threatening nearby buildings.
But thanks to the heroic efforts of 74 firefighters and 10 fire trucks from the Russian Emergencies Ministry, the 1,500-square-meter blaze was contained and extinguished before it could spread.
Miraculously, no one was injured in the dramatic rescue operation.
