The artist Sernet’s “Guerrilla Tea” series, also known as “One,” features photographs showcasing a diverse group of guests from various cultural backgrounds sharing a bowl of tea. The photographs are taken within a stylized Japanese Tea Room shaped like a cube, where Sernet performs traditional tea ceremonies. Through this juxtaposition of cultures and environments, Sernet invites viewers to question the relationship between the cube and its surroundings, and to examine their own cultural, spiritual, religious, or philosophical values.
By using the cube as a conceptual space, Sernet prompts viewers to rethink their perceptions of cultural differences and similarities. The ultimate goal of the series is to show that seemingly incompatible worlds are in fact based on similar universal values that allow them to coexist. Through his unique approach, Sernet encourages viewers to see the world in a new and different way.
