Tennessee GOP Rep. Tim Burchett says that he believes the Biden administration and government are purposely withholding information and lying about their knowledge of the recent onslaught of mysterious drone activity in the Northeast United States.

The U.S. cybersecurity watchdog CISA is telling senior American government officials and politicians to immediately switch to end-to-end encrypted messaging following intrusions at major American telecoms blamed on Chinese hackers.

In written guidance released on Wednesday, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said "individuals who are in senior government or senior political positions" should "immediately review and apply" a series of best practices around the use of mobile devices.

The first recommendation: "Use only end-to-end encrypted communications."

End-to-end encryption - a data protection technique which aims to make data unreadable by anyone except its sender and its recipient - is baked into various chat apps, including Meta Platforms' WhatsApp, Apple's iMessage, and the privacy-focused app Signal. Corporate offerings which allow end-to-end encryption also include Microsoft's Teams and Zoom Communications' meetings.

Defense Secretary Nominee Pete Hegseth’s Senate confirmation hearing is scheduled for the second week of January, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee told CNN.

Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), the incoming-chairman of the committee, told CNN’s Manu Raju that the hearing, where members of the committee will grill Hegseth in a public hearing on various issues, will take place on January 14.

A salary bump for members of Congress, who are currently paid $174,000 per year, is included in the 1,547-page spending bill that was unveiled on Tuesday night.

Congress has to pass a spending bill to keep the government funded before the end of the day on Friday. The current version is a Continuing Resolution that would last until mid-March.

The House speaker earns $223,500 annually and the Senate majority leader makes $193,400 while other lawmakers earn $174,000 currently. The average salary in the United States is $66,621, according to the latest data from the Social Security Administration.

A provision in the negotiated spending bill would allow the automatic pay raises to return, which could yield a $6,600 raise next year for lawmakers, according to a Congressional Research Service report from September that analyses salaries.

Ukraine unveils new ‘Trident’ laser weapon that can take out aircraft over a mile away

Ukraine military officials revealed the country’s new “Trident” laser air-defense weapon — which officials said can shoot down aircraft from more than a mile away and could be a game-changer in the conflict.

“It really works; it really exists,” Colonel Vadym Sukharevsky, the commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, confirmed at the Europe Defence Industry conference this week.

“We can state that today Ukraine is, if I’m not mistaken, the fifth country that can say it has a laser weapon,” Sukharevsky added, according to the Kyiv Post.

“We are already able to shoot down planes at an altitude of more than 2 kilometers [ about 1.2 miles] with this laser.”

Sukharevskyi did not provide any further details about the weapon but said the laser was named the Tryzub — the Ukrainian word for a “trident” which is the symbol used on the national coat of arms.

United States District Court Judge Paul Magnuson ordered on Monday that Chauvin's lawyers be allowed access to Floyd's heart tissue and histology slides, photographs of his heart and samples of Floyd's bodily fluids, as his legal team is investigating the possibility that Floyd died from a heart condition and not Chauvin's actions.

In a 10-page motion to reconsider filed Tuesday, prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota argued that Chauvin had "no legal basis for [his] discovery requests, all of which stem solely from an email he received from an unvetted doctor offering a weaker version of the medical defense than the version that the jury had previously rejected at his state trial."

ANOTHER ONE🙄: DHS reports presumptive positive human case Avian Influenza in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Health is alerting the public following the first presumptive positive human case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), also known as bird flu. The risk to the general public in Wisconsin remains low.

The case is in Barron County. The human case follows an infected flock of commercial poultry identified in Barron County. The person had exposure to the infected flock.

The case was identified through testing at the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene and is pending confirmation at the CDC.

DHS is monitoring farm workers who may have been exposed to the virus and has provided them with information to protect their health.
