AVONDALE, Louisiana
Jefferson Parish officials ordered a brief evacuation near Hwy 90 & Avondale Garden Rd, after a suspicious odor was reported in the area this afternoon.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed it is assisting with the evacuation as crews respond. Initial reports indicated 11 people were evacuated from 8 residences.
The initial call about the possible gas leak came in around 1 p.m. Residents near the location were instructed to leave the area while first responders worked to address the leak.
This incident comes exactly one week after a deadly home explosion at the same intersection, about half of a block away.
Jefferson Parish authorities have not yet released details on the cause of this latest leak.

Heartbreaking: A 5-year-old girl is dead after she was attacked by her family dogs at her home in Covina on Sunday, authorities say.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home in a gated community in the 2500 block of Palomino Drive around noon on Sunday.
They discovered that a 5-year-old girl had been attacked by the two family dogs in the backyard of the home.
Los Angeles County Fire paramedics brought the girl to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:23 p.m.
