JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri

An explosion shortly before 3 a.m. today destroyed a house in a residential neighborhood in eastern Jefferson City.

The shockwave from the blast in the 3400 block of St. Louis Road was felt by residents for miles.

Firefighters, rescue workers and police, as well as  utility workers from Ameren Missouri, remain on the scene of the house, which erupted in a fireball from the explosion.

They continued to douse the smoking remains of the house with water and sort through the rubble.

A neighbor on the scene immediately following the explosion told the News Tribune she witnessed ambulance workers attending to injured individuals, although there's no word yet from officials about how many were in the home at the time or their status, nor the cause of the explosion.

RAY, North Dakota

A tank battery just north of Ray exploded and caught fire Friday morning.

Ray Fire Capt. Kasey Knox said they were dispatched around 10:30 a.m. to an explosion and fire at a site roughly 5 miles north of Ray.

He said 4 tanks were on fire when they arrived. It’s unknown what caused the explosion.

There were no personnel on scene at the time of the blast, and no injuries were reported.

They decided it was the best course to let the fire burn itself out. He said he lives in the area, and some local residents reported their homes shaking from the explosion.

“I was not home at the time, but my neighbor, half a mile away said he felt his house shake. Talked to numerous other people from around the area. They said the same thing,” said Knox. Knox said the fire burned itself out Saturday morning, and the site is contained.
