Philippines braces for ‘worst case scenario’ as Super Typhoon Man-yi strikes

750,000 were forced to shelter as Super Typhoon Man-yi made landfall in the Philippines on Sunday, with 28 airports closed as a precaution before 195kph sustained winds struck.

Although no new casualties have been confirmed yet, authorities have warned of a “potentially dangerous and life-threatening” situation as Man-yi moves further inland, with 7-meter tidal surges recorded.

It is the sixth major storm to hit the country in the last month, with back-to-back systems striking Luzon and leaving at least 160 dead.
