We are now just over two weeks away from the United States election. It's getting spicier and spicier! Take this time to pick up preps, check for holes in your preps, plan for water purification and rainwater catchment, fuel/ energy, home defense etc.
Adding a fuel siphon to your shopping list might not be a bad idea either. 😉

H-E-B frozen meals among 10M pounds of meat recalled by USDA after listeria outbreak
The recall concerns 75 ready-to-eat meals made by BrucePac, which produces meat for various restaurants and big stores like Walmart, H-E-B, Trader Joe's, and Aldi.
What do you use to communicate with your children if TSHTF and cell phones are out. No land lines.
The instructions in the can are for an all out war scenario but it could be wildfire or flooding where the house would be destroyed. I figured maybe the steel pole of the clothes line pole would still be standing. Buried in the can would be instructions on where to find supplies (close by) and where I went for safety.

Long ago, ok about 15-20 years ago, as a single Mom with a houseful of teens coming and going, I kept a list in the bathroom closet for every scenario you could think of and directions for what to do. If you smell rotten eggs, get out of the house immediately and call the fire department. The difference between how to put out a grease fire and regular fire. If there’s a fire, get out and meet at the neighbors across the street mailbox. If there’s an immediate threat in our neighborhood, grab your go bag and head to the Shaffers house. If there’s a territorial threat in our county….
I even had directions for if you’re away and I have to leave home before you get back, there’s a tin can buried by the most northern close line pole with instructions.
My son’s been in the Army now, so my apprentice has become the master and he gives the instructions now. He’s about a month away from finishing his degree in Gunsmithing!!!

Learn from my mistakes!!!!! In no particular order.
1. Credit/debit and most electronic payments are USELESS in most disasters. Keep a stash of emergency cash if you can.
2. Don’t expect anyone else to save you. Be as ready for emergencies as possible.
3. In extended emergencies…. Day one and two are buffet days. Time to enjoy all the meat, milk, and fridge items first before they go bad. Don’t worry about trying to “save” it unless you have a propane generator.
4. If you have a petro powered generator, don’t waste $100 of fuel to save $50 worth of fridge items. For short term, eat the food that perishes the quickest, first.
5. If there is flooding, initially shut your water off at the main if possible to prevent any contamination of your current homes system. Know how to access water from your water heater and lowest faucet/spigot. Store the water! Turn your main back on if it’s working, contaminated line water is still sufficient for sewage needs…….. but don’t drink contaminated water.
6. Expensive emergency stoves that only work with one type of fuel become useless quickly. Invest in multi fuel stoves. Simple esbit type stoves can burn tabs, wood, paper, pellets, pucks, gels, and alcohol.
7. Have a cheap $15 battery powered pocket radio with AM/FM and NOAA weather band. It may be your only source of information and entertainment.
8. NEVER EVER store your emergency electronics with batteries installed!!! (Flashlights, radios, electric lanterns, etc)
The risk of battery corrosion isn’t worth it.
9. Try to choose emergency electronics that utilize the same size or as few sizes as possible. AA & AAA is preferable.
10. Lighting…. Candles are for general lighting! Know how to make a simple oil candle! If you can’t make an oil candle, use what you have. Headlamps over flashlights. Headlamps allow two free hands to work.
11. A dollar store emergency item is better than no emergency item. Build a cheap kit if money is tight. Replace the items with better quality items as funds become available.
12. Keep your preps QUIET! Don’t let people know what you have. Even friends can become a threat when it comes to lack of food and water. Nobody needs a narc to blab to FEMA.
13. Lastly, as the old saying goes, “It’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.” Apply that to whatever you want.
