NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana
The southbound Crowder Boulevard Bridge over the Morrison Canal will close for emergency repairs beginning Friday.
According to Councilmember Jason Hughes, the Louisiana DOT ordered the emergency closure after inspectors found several support beams beneath the bridge that may not be structurally sound.
"On Wednesday, DOTD ordered an emergency closure because a few of the beams under the bridge are compromised, so there is a risk the bridge could actually collapse. and so the safety of the public is vital," Hughes said.

9 train cars derailed around 2:50 a.m. Friday morning near the Steel Bridge, officials said.
No hazardous materials were released, and officials said that no injuries were reported.
Officials said that cleanup is underway and an investigation into what caused the derailment is ongoing.
