​​Ohio authorities confirmed that the case occurred on July 1, 2026, when a routine operation for an unrelated investigation ended with the rescue of 16 children, all from the same family, who lived in “deplorable and subhuman” conditions in a ruined house in Hamden, Vinton County, Ohio. 📋 HOW DID THE RESCUE HAPPEN? The finding: The agents were executing a search warrant for another investigation when they discovered the minors without knowing that there were 16 children in the house. Ages: The children were between 18 months and 18 years old. The confinement: According to the sheriff, most of the children had spent the last four years confined to a single room of approximately 3.7 x 3.7 meter

The children were confined in an abandoned house, in a tiny room without even a toilet. Many of them couldn't speak, looked like feral children, and suffered from severe developmental delays.

Police found them by chance while responding to an unrelated case.

The youngest child rescued from captivity is just 18 months old, while the oldest is 18 years old.

The parents, along with the children's grandfather and grandmother, have been arrested. They have pleaded not guilty.
