🇺🇸 On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, three firefighters were injured in a dramatic house explosion on Whidbey Island, Washington.
The explosion was fueled by hundreds of pounds of fireworks stored inside the residence (one report cited around 700 pounds). Officials believe the fireworks ignited after someone smoked nearby (possibly a cigarette). The exact ignition source is still under investigation by the Region 3 Arson Task Force and the ATF.
Three firefighters were hurt by the blast: two deputy chiefs and one firefighter from Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue and South Whidbey Fire/EMS.
