Israel: Strikes on Journalists in Lebanon Apparently Deliberate | Human Rights Watch - Nov 2023

Two Israeli strikes in Lebanon on October 13, 2023, that killed Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah and injured six other journalists was an apparently deliberate attack on civilians and thus a war crime, Human Rights Watch said .

Witness accounts and video and photo evidence that Human Rights Watch verified indicate that the journalists were well removed from ongoing hostilities, clearly identifiable as members of the media, and had been stationary for at least 75 minutes before they were hit by two consecutive strikes. Human Rights Watch found no evidence of a military target near the journalists’ location.

🇵🇸 Jenin refugee camp becomes a scene of desolation

An Israeli army raid in the Jenin refugee camp, occupied West Bank, that went on for 60 hours left a scene of desolation, Al Jazeera’s Hoda-Abdel Hamid says.

“This is a desolate city, everything is shut down,” Abdel-Hamid said, reporting at the entrance of the refugee camp where Israeli soldiers were stationed.

Walls of shops at the site show drawings of the Star of David and other Israeli symbols, while sewage water fills the streets as the camp’s infrastructures were destroyed.

“Bulldozers were the first to go in and destroyed everything on their way to make people’s life here more difficult,” she said.

At least 12 people were killed and more than 500 arrested in the raid. Many of those detained were later released, Abdel-Hamid said, adding that some of those were badly beaten during questioning.

🇵🇸 Palestinian homes, shops and roads in Gaza City have been left in ruins as Israeli tanks and ground troops continue to flatten almost everything in their way.

Residents of the western part of the city were trapped in their homes for days as shelling hit everything that moved in some areas, according to Middle East Eye reporter Mohammed al-Hajjar.

Tanks temporarily retreated from some neighborhoods on Friday morning, allowing residents to come out to assess the damage.

🇵🇸 Testimonies from Gaza : This is what 24 hours of our lives in Gaza look like | Close Up

Al Jazeera’s digital documentary series, Close Up, reached out to Palestinians in Gaza in November and asked them to record whatever they could over the course of a day, on any devices that still worked. Because who better to tell the stories of life in Gaza than the people themselves who are living there through the horror of siege and war?

This compilation of people’s moments provides a snapshot of just one of these 70 days of war, where even the most mundane of tasks, like showering, doing laundry, and preparing meals, has become impossibly hard. Where fear is constant and palpable, that at any moment death could strike from above, as Israel relentlessly bombs the entire length of the besieged strip from morning to night.

The result is a story of resilience and courage.

🇵🇸 Urgent int’l investigation needed to probe Israeli war crimes after Palestinian civilians buried alive at Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital | EuroMed HR Monitor

Geneva - The Israeli army has reportedly buried wounded Palestinian civilians alive outside of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Gaza Strip’s northern town of Beit Lahia, after nine consecutive days of total siege, raids, and horrifying atrocities in the area. An independent international investigation must be opened into these reports, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a press release issued on Saturday.

Before they left the medical facility this morning, Israeli bulldozers buried Palestinian civilians alive in the hospital courtyard, according to testimonies the Geneva-based organisation received from media and medical crews on the ground. At least one of the bodies could be seen amid the sand piles, witnesses said, confirming that the victim was injured before being buried and killed.
