An American friend asked me recently, “How do you feel, Ghada?”

I paused for a second and then told her I felt afraid, tired and sad.

I could write volumes about the fear that grips us every night, the constant dread that engulfs our hearts.

In the middle of the night, I hear the sounds of children wailing from every direction. They are likely very aware of the imminent danger we face.

My niece Jinan, or Jojo, who is two and a half years old, started speaking some words recently. In addition to “mama” and “papa,” she has newly learned the word “qasef,” Arabic for shelling.

🇵🇸 Israeli Strike on Refaat al-Areer Apparently Deliberate| EuroMed HR Monitor

The Israeli airstrike that killed Prof. Refaat al-Areer was apparently deliberate, Euro-Med Monitor concluded on Friday. The apartment where Refaat and his family were sheltering was surgically bombed out of the entire building where it’s located, according to corroborated eyewitness and family accounts.

This came after weeks of death threats that Refaat received online and by phone from Israeli accounts.
We call for an immediate investigation into this apparently deliberate and targeted killing of a prominent Palestinian academic, writer, poet, and activist.

Two months ago the Hamas attack took place and the IDF retaliation began. @haaretzcom has produced a memorial site for each of the 1268 Israelis and foreign workers killed with their name and, for most, a photo. For #Gaza, where victims are far more numerous, photos and other humanising details of individual victims are much more scarce, due largely to the IDF raining bombs on and all around those who attempt to collect and disseminate this information. We present here details of 17 Palestinian victims in Gaza (out of a reported 232) killed on the same day, Oct 7, for whom we found both names and a commemorative photograph online, usually from relatives and colleagues. These were not all gathered in one place, but remain scattered. Such records must be preserved before they are lost or removed from public view. The Palestinian victims (of that day, and every subsequent day, in and outside of Gaza) deserve equal recognition and remembrance to all others killed by bombs and bullets. 🇵🇸 New catastrophic plight in Gaza: Israel’s attacks leave more than 5,000 Palestinians disabled | EuroMed HR Monitor

Geneva - More than 5,000 Palestinians have become disabled since 7 October due to Israel’s ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor and the Disabilities Representative Persons Network (DRPN) said in a joint statement issued Thursday.

Israel’s air and artillery strikes and forced eviction policy have had catastrophic effects on people with disabilities in the Gaza Strip, including increased risk of death, difficulties evading attacks, and difficulties meeting basic needs.

🇵🇸 Gaza bombing nears WW2 bombardment of Germany

Did you know in less than seven weeks, the damage wrought on northern Gaza by Israeli bombs almost equals the years-long carpet bombing of German cities during World War 2?

A recent article by the Financial Times investigated the kinds of bombs used by the Israeli Defence Force, and the intensity that they have been raining down upon Gaza, killing at least 17,000 Palestinians.

Robert Pape, a US military historian, a professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago, and author of ‘Bombing to Win’, a survey of 20th century bombing techniques, told Middle East Eye that Israel’s bombardment of Gaza would go down as one of the heaviest conventional bombings without nuclear weapons.

🇵🇸 ‘It’s Bisan From Gaza, And Diseases Are Spreading At These Schools' | Voices from Gaza - AJ+

Bisan Owda, a video journalist in Gaza, takes us inside the UN schools that now act as shelters for over 1 million displaced Palestinians. The schools are severely overcrowded and lack proper sanitation — as many as 160 people are forced to share a single toilet. Some shelters have seen outbreaks of #cholera and #hepatitis.

But even these shelters are not safe — Israel is now demanding that the Palestinians sheltering in #KhanYounis flee farther south to #Rafah.
