UN official: Israel has shifted from ‘indiscriminate’ killing of civilians to ‘organized killing’ in Gaza

Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt (@FranceskAlbs): "ALARMING. Phase II of #GazaWar (see @EpshtainItay), risks to push the exhausted Gaza population to the border with Egypt & into #deportation to Sinai. 🇵🇸 Testimonies from Gaza : My neighbourhood was vibrant and beautiful. Israel turned it into a wasteland | Mohammed al-Hajjar for Middle East Eye –

Nestled along Gaza's coastline, Rimal was an upscale neighbourhood in Gaza City, boasting ice cream parlours, cafes and vibrant boutique clothes shops.

Today, it lies in complete ruin - a clear sign that no part of Gaza, residential or otherwise, is
safe from Israeli bombardment.

"Al-Azhar University, where I studied for seven years, was bombed. The streets surrounding it were bombed, and buildings inside the university campus were bombed.

My seven-year-old son Majd attended the New Gaza Primary School for Boys. Located on al-Nasr Street, today it has been appropriated by the Israeli army, which uses it to hold residents it has arrested.

As I walked around, I was reminded of the scenes at al-Shifa itself, which were some of the most painful and inhuman I've ever witnessed
."

🇵🇸 What happens to arrested Palestinian women?

After speaking to several women who had been arrested in Hebron, in the occupied West Bank, Al Jazeera’s Hoda Abdel-Hamid traced the phases of detention that female prisoners have to face:

They are first brought to Ofer prison. They are then taken to another location for interrogation for several days. After that, they are moved to Demon, a prison for female Palestinian detainees in Israel.

“They say inside those jails they are entirely cut off from the world and conditions are very harsh because they say prison guards were taking revenge or their anger out on them for what happened on October 7,” Abdel-Hamid said, reporting from #Hebron.

🇵🇸 Special Rapporteur Says Israel’s Unlawful Carceral Practices in the Occupied Palestinian Territory Are Tantamount to International Crimes and Have Turned it into an Open-Air Prison | OHCHR - July 2023

Currently, there were 5,000 Palestinians in Israeli prisons, including 160 children, and approximately 1,100 of them were detained without charge or trial.  Her report did not condone any acts of violence committed by Palestinians, while living under an unlawful occupation or in their pursuit to end it.

However, it must be acknowledged that most Palestinians had been convicted through a series of violations of international law, such as discrimination, persecution, and breaches of due process and for ordinary acts of life and in the exercise of legitimate civil and political rights.

A widespread and systematic arbitrary deprivation of liberty of Palestinians was a structural component of their subjugation.

🇵🇸 Israel pushes Gaza's terrified residents from one refuge to another | by Maha Hussaini for Middle East Eye –

With mattresses tied to the roof of their car, Aya Fehmi and her family returned to their first house of refuge in the central Gaza Strip.

They had evacuated it for another place of refuge in the south during the fourth week of Israel's ferocious assault on the Gaza Strip. But, following the end of the pause in fighting on Friday, the Israeli military dropped leaflets in the area of this second refuge, warning people it was to become a "fighting zone" and ordering them to leave.

"We left our home on the sixth day of the attack after we received messages [from the Israeli military] saying that our neighbourhoods would be targeted. We moved to a relative's home in Deir al-Balah and stayed there for three weeks," Fehmi, a 34-year-old mother of three boys, told Middle East Eye.

🇵🇸 Gaza witnesses bloodiest day yet of Israeli massacres | EuroMed HR Monitor

Geneva - In an escalation of its bloody attacks on the Gaza Strip, Israel has committed mass murder by massacring entire residential blocks, resulting in over 1,000 people killed, wounded, or reported missing, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said on Sunday.

Yesterday marked the bloodiest day in the Gaza Strip since Israel began its genocide on 7 October, according to Euro-Med Monitor. This feeds fears of an even more ruthless approach to achieving chilling field and political objectives at the cost of civilians’ lives and property.

🇵🇸 War Diaries: Israel’s Genocide in the Making in Gaza
| EuroMed HR Monitor

Since October 7, Israel has comprehensively and directly targeted civilian infrastructure; used extreme and unprecedented levels of disproportionate force; and showed near-total disregard for civilian lives; sparing almost nothing in its attacks on the Gaza Strip, Euro-Med Monitor concluded in a new report released on Tuesday. The Israeli assault on Gaza can only be described as a genocide in the making.

The report, titled “War Diaries: Israel’s Genocide in the Making in Gaza”, chronicles and highlights some of the most egregious Israeli actions in Gaza on a day-by-day basis, some of which may amount to war crimes and even crimes against humanity.
