🇵🇸 These Are Western Countries Aiding Israel’s Genocide in Gaza – Mint Press

Since Israel’s war on Gaza began in October, several rights groups have initiated legal proceedings regarding arms exports to Israel.

On Nov. 6, Palestinian human rights organizations, #AlHaq, #AlMezan Center for Human Rights, and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (#PCHR) launched legal action in the Federal Court of Australia to access all arms export permits that have been granted to Israel since Oct.7.

🇵🇸 Did Israel really find a tunnel under al-Shifa hospital? | Electronic Intifada

The Electronic Intifada's contributing editor Jon Elmer and executive director Ali Abunimah analyze, in detail, a video promoted by the Israeli military that supposedly shows a robot drone inside a tunnel used by the Palestinian resistance.

“The thing that I noticed is that that’s not underneath al-Shifa [hospital]. So they made it sound like there was a command center, as if people were all going into Shifa, down into this lair, and then all of a sudden, they cut out on the far corner of the campus,” Jon said.

"The Israelis say that there’s 1,300 tunnels – if you dig down in various spots in downtown Gaza City, you’re presumably going to find a tunnel. I think the thing that’s interesting to me, whether that video is fake or not … [is] that that’s only 10 meters down. And they lost control of whatever that was."

“I hugged the olive tree… I’d raised the tree like my child.” Mahfodah Shtayyeh

On November 27, 2005, a Palestinian woman was photographed hugging an olive tree after it was attacked by Israeli settlers. The photograph became an iconic image symbolising the daily struggle of many Palestinian farmers in the occupied West Bank.

Over 800,000 olive trees on Palestinian farms have been uprooted by the Israeli authorities and settlers since 1967.

🇵🇸 1/2 - Some context and background on Palestinians detained & imprisoned by Israel :

1) A Palestinian "prisoner" does not refer to someone tried & convicted in a normal court of law that follows due process. Palestinians are detained by Israeli soldiers, https://www.addameer.org/israeli_military_judicial_system/military_courts

No arrest warrant, no right to a phone call, no lawyers present. 2) Palestinians are interrogated without lawyers present & widespread abuses amounting to torture, are documented by human rights orgs. This links to some #testimonies. https://addameer.org/publications/systematic-use-torture-and-ill-treatment-israeli-interrogation-centers-cases-torture

3) Palestinian children are also tried in specially designed "juvenile military courts". Between 500 & 700 🇵🇸 kids are tried in these courts each year. Sworn affidavits of nearly 800 child detainees show 86% were not informed of the reason for their arrest https://www.dci-palestine.org/military_detention

80% were strip-searched, 42% were denied adequate food & water, 31% were denied access to a toilet, 97% were interrogated without a family member present, 55% were shown or made to sign a paper in Hebrew, not Arabic. https://www.savethechildren.net/news/%E2%80%9Ctreated-animals%E2%80%9D-palestinian-children-face-inhumane-treatment-israeli-run-prisons

4) Israel widely uses "administrative detention" against hundreds of Palestinians. This allows for the indefinite detention of a Palestinian without charge - renewable every 6 months. Since '67, around 60,000 Palestinians were administrative detainees. https://www.btselem.org/administrative_detention

🇵🇸 2/2 - Some context and background on Palestinians detained & imprisoned by Israel

5) At least 800,000 🇵🇸shave been imprisoned at one point in their lives since 1967 by Israel, making the issue of prisoners a topic that touches all families. In July @FranceskAlbs said this mass incarceration policy was another expression of apartheid. https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2023/07/dismantle-israels-carceral-regime-and-open-air-imprisonment-palestinians-un

6) Israel detains Palestinians from Gaza under an obscure law that strips away meaningful judicial review and due process rights. That says a lot given that Palestinian detainees from the West Bank barely have any rights. https://www.hrw.org/news/2017/03/01/gaza-unlawful-combatants-law-violates-rights

7) More than 10,000 Palestinian women have been imprisoned since 1967. Currently around 80 are imprisoned & detained by Israel.

8) Palestinians can be detained for raising a 🇵🇸, throwing stones, "incitement", or affiliation with any political faction. https://www.addameer.org/israeli_military_judicial_system/military_orders

9) Since 10/7, Israeli forces have detained around 3,000 Palestinians, including 30 journalists, community leaders, and non-violent resistance leaders & has denied lawyers & ICRC access. HR orgs have documented horrific tales of torture of detainees https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2023/11/israel-opt-horrifying-cases-of-torture-and-degrading-treatment-of-palestinian-detainees-amid-spike-in-arbitrary-arrests/#:~:text=Israeli%20authorities%20have%20dramatically%20increased,of%20torture%20and%20death%20in"

10) Released prisoners say in addition to cutting off water & electricity, detainees report that many have had their limbs, legs, and hands broken, and many others from unrecognizable from the beating. Soldiers are filming the abuse : https://invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=ltu-F_2ai1M

🇵🇸 The voice of Gaza | The Electronic Intifada – 23/11/2023

Al Jazeera’s bureau chief in Gaza Wael al-Dahdouh was live on air when he heard the worst possible news: His family had been attacked by Israel.

His wife Amna, son Mahmoud, daughter Sham and grandson Adam were all killed.

It has been almost a month since the massacre yet Wael has not had any space to grieve. He has continued reporting with great courage on the genocide being inflicted on his people

Imminent truce must be used to strengthen int’l, human rights, media presence in Gaza

Ahead of the first temporary humanitarian truce agreement in the Gaza Strip going into effect, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor called for the formation of international human rights committees that would visit the Strip and document the magnitude of Israel’s crimes against Palestinian civilians.

EMHRM emphasised that any United Nations fact-finding committees sent to investigate the situation in Gaza should gather victim #testimonies in person and ascertain the rapidly worsening humanitarian situation with their own eyes

The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court should be tasked with taking the lead in this regard, said the rights organisation. It should be expected to dispatch representatives to conduct field visits in the Gaza Strip, in order to speak with #victims and witnesses and oversee #investigations at the scene of the #crimes
