🇵🇸 Adalah Report: Two years after the May 2021 events – May 2023
In this issue of Adalah’s News, we report on our new publication on the May 2021 events, also known as the “Dignity Uprising”, and how the violent suppression by Israeli security forces – which took place throughout historic Palestine (Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory) - laid the foundation for the current draconian policing practices by Israel’s radical, right-wing government against Palestinian citizens of Israel (#PCI).

🇵🇸 Gaza Israeli Attacks, Blockade Devastating for People with Disabilities | HRW
Those able to evacuate described the dread of having to leave their homes, which had been designed to meet their accessibility and adaptability requirements, as well as their assistive devices, such as wheelchairs, walkers, and hearing aids. They also raised concerns about not having access to essential medication and the impact on their mental health. They and hundreds of thousands of others have been forced into overcrowded emergency shelters; mostly health facilities and schools, lacking sufficient access to water, food, and sanitation.
A general lack of assistive devices in #Gaza such as wheelchairs, prostheses, crutches, and hearing aids, a result primarily of restrictions linked to Israel’s unlawful 16-year closure of Gaza, is also effecting people’s ability to flee. People who have visual, hearing, developmental, or intellectual #disabilities may not hear, know about, or understand what is happening

🇵🇸 Israel is Waging an Extensive War of Starvation against Gaza’s Civilian Population – Euro Med Monitor
Geneva — As part of its ongoing war for the fifth week in a row, Israel has sharply increased in recent hours what can only be described as a war of starvation against civilians in the Gaza Strip in an effort to deepen their difficult living conditions, which has reached catastrophic levels, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to Euro-Med Monitor, the Israeli war of starvation has taken very dangerous turns, including cutting off all food supplies to the Northern half and bombing and destroying factories, bakeries, food stores, water stations, and tanks throughout the entire enclave.

🇵🇸 TARGETING PALESTINE - Declassified Australia – 03/11/2023
The Pine Gap US surveillance base located outside of Alice Springs in Australia is collecting an enormous range of communications and electronic intelligence from the brutal Gaza-Israel battlefield – and this data is being provided to the Israel Occupation Forces.
Two large Orion geosynchronous signals intelligence satellites, belonging to the US and operated from Pine Gap, are located 36,000 kms above the equator over the Indian Ocean. From there, they look down on the Middle East, Europe and Africa, and gather huge amounts of intelligence data to beam back to the Pine Gap base.

🇵🇸 Prior to current crisis, decades-long blockade hollowed Gaza’s economy, leaving 80% of population dependent on international aid | UNCTAD – 25/10/2023
Inflation, a shrinking fiscal space, a decline in foreign aid and the build-up of debt kept the economy of the Occupied Palestinian Territory below its 2019 pre-pandemic level.
Against a backdrop of heightened political tensions, deepening dependency on the occupying Power and a stalled peace process, the Palestinian economy continued to operate below potential in 2022 as other persistent challenges intensified.
These include loss of land and natural resources to Israeli settlements, endemic poverty, a shrinking fiscal space, declining foreign aid and the build-up of public and private debt.

🇵🇸 Builder for Secret U.S. Base in Israel Also Built Illegal Settlement – 03/11/2023
THE US military recent $35 million contract to do construction at its secret base in Israel went to a joint venture that includes an American firm and an Israeli one. The Israeli company, Y.D. Ashush Infrastructure, has been involved in many large-scale infrastructure and public works projects — including building an illegal settlement in occupied Palestinian territory.
In a section on its website touting its projects, Ashush mentions construction work in the settlement of Leshem. Originally planned to include nearly 700 homes, Leshem was constructed in the 2010s as a satellite of Alei Zahav, a settlement established in 1982.

🇵🇸 Book : OUR VISION FOR LIBERATION: Engaged Palestinian Leaders & Intellectuals Speak Out | Ramzy Baroud - 2022
Co-edited by Ilan Pappe and Ramzy Baroud, Our Vision for Liberation: Engaged Palestinian Leaders & Intellectuals Speak Out aims to challenge several strata of the current Palestine discourse that have led to the present dead end: the American pro-Israel political discourse, the Israeli colonial discourse, the Arab discourse of purported normalization, and the defunct discourse of the Palestinian factions. None promote justice, none have brought resolution; none bode well for any of the parties involved.

🇵🇸 Maha Hussaini, Gaza corresponded for Middle East Eye, has been documenting the dire situation in the region for the past month. She left her home with no idea of what remains of it, her neighbourhood has since been carpet bombed. The feeling of home has become a distant memory for her.
Unsure of how long this situation will last, Maha describes how she and others believe that each day may be their last. The scarcity of basic necessities such as food and water has become overwhelming. She fears that she won't be able to provide food for her family, as money has become useless in Gaza

🇵🇸 Israel holding 750 families in Hebron under curfew for a month, in the form of collective punishment | Btselem
Since the war broke out on 7 October 2023, the military has been imposing a curfew on 11 neighborhoods in Area H2 in Hebron. Stores and businesses have been shut down and thousands of people, amounting to about 750 families, are imprisoned at home. Only after two weeks of full #curfew, on 21 October 2023, did the military permit residents to leave home on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening.
There is no justification for keeping hundreds of people under a blanket movement ban, locked up at home for weeks on end. Israel is taking advantage of the fact that local and international attention is currently diverted from the #WestBank to impose far-reaching measures that constitute collective punishment, which is prohibited under international law. This conduct is integral to Israel’s #apartheid regime, which is at its most flagrant in #Hebron.

🇵🇸 5 Broken Cameras محطمة كاميرات خمس Khamas Kamīrāt | 2011
An extraordinary work of both cinematic and political activism, 5 Broken Cameras is a deeply personal, first-hand account of non-violent resistance in Bil’in, a West Bank village threatened by encroaching Israeli settlements. Shot almost entirely by Palestinian farmer Emad Burnat, who bought his first camera in 2005 to record the birth of his youngest son, the film was assembled by Burnat and Israeli co-director Guy Davidi. Structured around the violent destruction of each one of Burnat’s cameras, the filmmakers’ collaboration follows one family’s evolution over five years of village turmoil. Burnat watches from behind the lens as olive trees are bulldozed, protests intensify, and lives are lost
