Jack Smith Spied on Trump Staffer’s Communications and 20+ Lawyers: Report‼️

Jack Smith was keeping very close tabs on Susie Wiles while she was busy running Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

Newly released documents show Smith’s team used a surveillance tool to monitor her phone communications, including contacts with at least five journalists, 21 defense attorneys, and several political advisers.

The method used was a pen register, sometimes called a trap-and-trace device. It doesn’t capture the content of calls, but it records metadata like phone numbers dialed and the times of those calls. So no, they weren’t listening in on her conversations. They were just quietly cataloguing everyone she ever talked to. Totally normal stuff.

The news outlets Wiles was in contact with, according to the documents, included CNN, The Washington Post, Politico, and Just the News. Most names in the documents were redacted. The FBI also sent preservation requests on February 3, 2023, to Google, Microsoft, MSN, and Yahoo, asking them to hold onto Wiles' email information. Again, metadata only, not content, but still a fairly aggressive level of interest in the woman running a presidential campaign.

All of this was part of what Smith's team called the "Plasmic Echo" investigation into Trump's alleged mishandling of classified documents. An FBI memo from March 10 included three pages of Wiles' phone contacts, and on April 7, 2023, agents interviewed her and showed her four pages of her own communications. She's now White House chief of staff, which makes the whole thing look even worse in hindsight.

The Treasury Department blocked $175 million in federal payments tied to deceased recipients in fiscal year 2026, up sharply from the $99 million identified just months earlier as the Trump administration expanded government-wide screening for improper payments.

All four active federal judges in Middle Tennessee have recused themselves from a lawsuit filed by Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., against former special counsel Jack Smith over the collection of her phone records.

An order filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, which includes Nashville, states: "All District Judges of the Middle District of Tennessee have recused in this matter," Newsweek reported.

The order, signed by Chief U.S. District Judge William L. Campbell Jr., said the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will designate a judge from outside the district, who will then be assigned to the case.

Local media reports from Russia suggest that a second person has died at Irkutsk district hospital after allegedly contracting the Russian plague, Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

The report further claims that local coverage of the second case has begun disappearing online.

Reports of the second person's death come amid strict state control over media narratives.

Local independent journalists claim that the second person died at the isolation zone at the Irkutsk District Hospital. This is the same facility where 28-year-old lab technician Darya Shipilova the first reported victim, succumbed to the illness. Strict lockdown and quarantine protocols were implemented at the facility.

Reports further claim that dozens of staff members were forced to sleep on floors and chairs as they are confined inside the locked-down facility.

The flow of information from inside the facility is heavily controlled.

The second person was either a medical staff member or an existing patient who died following alleged cross-infection within the quarantine zone. Major news channels such as Channel 5 briefly broadcast news about the second death. However, these reports were removed shortly afterwards.

Rospotrebnadzor, Russia's biosecurity and health watchdog, has consistently denied reports of plague. It maintains that the cause of Shipilova's death is "pneumonia of unknown etiology". Igor Kobzev, the regional governor of Irkutsk, has also publicly announced that no new cases from the institute have been identified.

International organizations such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the WHO continue to monitor the region closely.

The Kremlin on Wednesday appeared to reject reports of a second suspected plague case in Siberia, telling reporters when asked about the accounts that most media reporting on the situation was "false".

The United States, the European Union and the World Health Organization have all called on Russia to be transparent over the reported plague death of a laboratory technician at a plague research institute in Siberia's Irkutsk region last week.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also called Wednesday for Moscow to clarify "media reports of a second employee with pneumonia of undetermined cause".

Asked about the reports, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that "the media reports a great deal".

"And the vast majority of what the media is reporting regarding this situation is false information," he insisted, calling on people to
rely solely on official statements from Russia's health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor.

Peskov also said he had "no information" regarding a formal request from Washington for clarifications about the situation.

A source close to the matter had said on Tuesday that the United States had made such a request via a confidential diplomatic communication, known as a demarche.

Russian news outlet People of Baikal reported Friday that the dead woman — named as 28-year-old Darya Shipilova - may have contracted pneumonic plague from a broken test tube.

Other media reported a possible link between her death and a lab accident at the facility.

The People of Baikal outlet also said up to 200 people with whom she may have had contact were under quarantine.

But Russian authorities say the cause of death is not confirmed and Rospotrebnadzor has denied claims circulating in a document online that special measures have been put in place.
