One of the unique finds from the tomb of king Tutankhamun is this wooden box in the shape of a cartouche.

It is oval-shaped with a line at one end, inside which the Name of King Tutankhamun written in hierogplyhs and the three signs in the bottom mention one of his titles as “Ruler of Thebes”

The box contained many items inside including two crooks and two flails.

Carter found three shabtis in a shrine-shaped box within the tomb. This example represents the king wearing a khepresh or blue crown, the headdress associated with war.

The figure’s face is delicately carved with added painted details.

The king’s hands are crossed and hold a crook and a flail in each hand. Two vertical lines of spells are carved from the waist down.

Interestingly, the soles of the feet contain another inscription mentioning that the figure was a gift from one of the king’s generals called Nakhtmin.

‏The jewelry collection from Tutankhamun’s tomb shows the level of skill and craftstmanship required to produce such pieces. This example is one of many earrings found in the tomb.

‏ It has a gold circluar shape surrounded by beads. The center is occupied by a tiny figure of the king between two uraes with solar disks on their heads. Six strings of bead hang below to complete the piece.

‏This palm-shaped column was actually used as a container for reed pens used in writing. It is one of many items found in Tutankhamun’s tomb related to writing and painting.
‏The object is made of gilded wood inlayed with carnelian, obsidian, and coloured glass.
‏The middle section contains the names of king Tutankhamun. The throne name, Neb-Kheperu-Re, is visible in the picture inside a cartouche.

Another item of everyday life that was found in the tomb is this wooden chair. Its small size shows that it was used by Tutankhamun when he was a child.

Gold foil panels showing ibexes and desert plants decorate the arms of the chair. The legs are elegantly carved in the shape of lion legs and terminate in lion paws with claws made of ivory.

Carter found fans within the equipment of the tomb, which would have been very practical to use in the hot Egyptian summer.

The title “Fan Bearer of the king” was a very important title in ancient Egypt held by influential officials.

This fan originally held ostrich feathers attached to it. The palm of the fan is decorated with the birth and throne names of the king. Two vultures on either side represent the protective goddesses of Upper and Lower Egypt.

This item would have been part of the priestly garment of Tutankhamun. Small bronze rings at the back would have sewn the head to a cloth robe to complete the look.
The wooden gilded head is carved in the shape of a leopard, with inlays of colored glass and crystal. Tutankhamun’s throne name, Neb-kheperu-ra, is carved into the leopard’s forehead.

Breastplate of King Tutankhamun
Inspiring jewel-makers until today, the falcon-shaped breastplate is made from gold, lapis lazuli and carnelian.

The falcon’s wings are outstretched, it carries a solar disc on its head, and two shen-rings in each talon, topped with an ankh.

Most likely, this piece represents Horus, the falcon-headed deity of power and kingship.

One of the most popular pieces found in Tutankhamun’s tomb is his golden throne made of gilded wood and decorated with colored glass and semi-precious stones.

The focal point of the throne is the decorated scene on the back. It shows the royal couple under the rays of the solar disk. Tutankhamun is seated on his throne and wears an elaborate headdress and jewlery.

Tutankhamun’s wife, Ankhesenamun, is shown standing while applying perfumed ointments to his skin from a cup in her hand. The queen also wears an elaborate crown and jewelery.

Tutankhamun’s body was buried in a quartzite sarcophagus which held three coffins: the outer, middle and innermost.

This one, the middle gilded coffin, is made of wood before being inlaid with multicolored glass.

The king is shown crossing his arms, holding the crook and flail, while a band of hieroglyphs rests vertically on the lower part. Incredibly, Carter found this coffin covered by a red linen shroud topped with dry garlands of flowers.

And this last post wraps 30 days of a campaign highlighting masterpieces from Tutankhamun’s tomb, and celebrating the discovery that continues to dazzle the world.

An icon that was and continues to be is none other than the funerary mask of King Tutankhamun. This highly-recognizable mask is made of gold, with inlays of turquoise, carnelian, lapis lazuli and semi-precious stones. While the front shows Tutankhamun resembling Osiris, god of the afterlife, the back is carved with a protective spell. It is, by far, one of Egypt’s most-beloved and prized treasures as well as one of the world’s best known masterpieces of art.
