این اصطلاح خاص رو جایی استفاده کنید که از کسی و یا چیزی تعریف می کنید، ولی در این تعریف جنبه منفی داره و می تونه مثبت هم باشه. ریشه این اصطلاح به سنتی در امریکا بر می گرده که فرد برنده درمسابقه پیاده روی به عنوان جایزه کیک دریافت می کرد….!

این اصطلاح از مسابقات ورزش گرفته شده که شرکت کننده قبل از اینکه تیر شروع شلیک بشه، مسابقه رو شروع می کنه…!!!!

The secretary jumped the gun and gave out the letters too soon.

The local weather bureau jumped the gun on predicting a storm; it didn't happen for another two days .

They jumped the gun and announced their victory before a TV reportage proved it wrong…!

ترجمه تحت الفظی این اصطلاح بدین معنی است که نفست رو بی خودی نگه ندار. شاید این داستان بر می گرده به اتفاقی که برخی از بچه ها نفسشون رو نگه میدارن تا به خواسته های خودشون برسن….

پل رو خراب کردن - یا پل های پشت سر رو خراب کردن به قول امریکایی ها پل ها رو سوزاندن
