ART AND CULTURE FRAMEWORKS
1. For introduction, start with something generic if you’re short on content. Talk about the rich history of Indian architecture in introduction if the question asks about Mughal architecture or how architecture represents the progress of the times etc etc.
2. Prepare the oft repeated themes well in advance - architecture, literature, inscriptions, coins, travellers, Mauryan art, Gupta age etc.
3. Use diagrams wherever possible. Try to add maps wherever nothing else comes to your mind. For instance, in a question on spread of Bhakti Movement, you can show the regional movements on the map. In Vesara style of architecture, you can mention the region where it was prominent, and show how it was influenced by both the northern and southern styles (through arrows).
This will help in filling pages as well since it’s difficult to recollect specific points in AnC.
4. Do revise your prelims notes very well. The more examples you can add, the better your answer will look. Sprinkling of prelims facts here and there will lend specificity to your answer.
5. Contribution of xyz to Indian art/culture/heritage? Break it into it’s constituent units like dance, music, painting, literature, monuments.
Impact on life in those times? Impact on social, political, economic, religious, cultural life.
6. Timelines and tables is an effective way of presenting facts. In 2021 question on Brahmo Samaj, I drew a timeline of when it was started, and then all the organisational changes that were made. (I had this timeline in my prelims notes which i revised 2 days before my Mains).
7. For conclusions, you can make use of Constitutional provisions like Article 49 which talks about protection of monuments and places and objects of national value or role of janbhagidaari to respect and save the treasure trove of Indian art and culture etc.
Art and Culture notes can be found here.
