"Carl Jung called it synchronicity...

A meaningful coincidence with no apparent cause...

It's the universe winking at you..."

The Kingdom That Shrank to 300 Meters

In just four generations, children’s independence of movement has collapsed —
from ten kilometers to barely three hundred meters.

We wanted to protect them from the world.
From danger, from strangers, from chance.
But in doing so, we shrank their world.

In 1919, an eight-year-old could ride ten kilometers on his own to go fishing.
In 1950, his grandson still walked two or three kilometers to reach the woods.
In 1979, his great-grandson could walk to the river — about a kilometer away.
And in 2007, his great-great-grandson was allowed only to the end of the street.
Three hundred meters.
His kingdom had shrunk to the size of a sidewalk.

From generation to generation, children’s freedom dissolved like salt in water —
a quiet decline with serious consequences.

Because when a child loses the freedom to move,
it loses something far greater than just a place to play.
It loses its physical autonomy, courage, curiosity, and trust in life.

Because everything begins right there —
in those few meters that are free from fear.

Our children haven’t lost their curiosity.
It’s the world that has stopped trusting them.
We raise them like bonsai — beautiful, careful, predictable.
But without space, there is no growth.
There is only maintenance.

Has the world really become more dangerous?
No. Statistics show that the number of child accidents has been falling for decades.
But fear — has exploded.

Between 1983 and 2008, the number of children playing outdoors fell by half.
And now, in 2025, the question remains:
can we still give them back their freedom?

Because maybe it’s not about protecting children from the world.
Maybe it’s about returning the world to them,
before it becomes nothing more than a screen.
