As for Merychippus, which lived 15 million years ago, and the modern horse, the latter is bigger than the former. The horse has one-toed limbs, while its ancestor Merychippus had ones similar to those of species that lived 30 million years ago. On top of that, Merychippus's legs and neck were shorter and thinner than those of the horse.
