π LARRY WILLIAMS: FROM JOURNALIST TO WORLD TRADING CHAMPION
World champion in futures trading, author of best-selling books, and creator of unique indicators. How did a simple journalist from Oregon turn into a "champion of champions"?
Larry Williams was born in 1942 in the town of Billings, Montana, far from financial centers. His father worked at an oil refinery, where the future trading guru worked part-time during his school years.
Williams didn't dream of fame as a stock speculator, and in 1964, he studied journalism at the University of Oregon. After returning home from an internship in New York, he founded The Oregon Report.
At the same time, Williams checked out economics books at local libraries. To gain a deeper understanding of the market, he traveled to brokerage houses, taking advantage of his position as a journalist.
In 1966, Larry Williams entered the stock market for the first time. However, the first years on the stock exchange were marred by losses.
The story could have turned out differently if, in the early 70s, Larry Williams hadn't become acquainted with derivatives. The low costs of trading commission, leverage, and volatility allowed the future champion to refine strategies and achieve impressive results.
At the time of his participation in the 1984 Robbins World Cup, Larry Williams had made his first million. He started with a minimum amount of $10,000 and, by the end of the championship, earned 11000% annualized returns - an absolute world record to this day!π
Later Larry Williams ran for governor of Montana from the Republican Party, but lost twice with a gap of 5%. After that, he fully devoted himself to teaching and consulting.
Thousands of traders use Larry Williams' tools. He introduced and studied the influence of seasonality on trades, described trading on COT reports, and created the Ultimate Oscillator and Williams% R indicators, COT indices. In the ATAS platform, you will find the whole line of "Michigan Guru" works.
