Here Are 10 Tips to Ace Your Interview! 🌟💼
1. Start by Understanding the Problem 🧠🔍
When you’re given a problem, *read it out loud*. This helps you stay focused and ensures the interviewer knows what’s on your mind.
If something is not given or unclear , ask questions:
- ❓ “What’s the size of the input?”
- ❓ “ can i assume this ... ”
Once you feel confident, repeat the problem in your own words to confirm your understanding:
- 🗣 “So, if i am not mistaken , I need to find the maximum sum of a subarray, correct?”
This shows you’re listening and proactive.
2. Plan Before You Act 📝💡
If you need time to think, ask for it politely:
- ⏳ “Can I take 2–3 minutes to think this through?”
- ✍️ “Can I use pen and paper to sketch out my ideas?”
Sketching helps simplify your thought process, especially for problems involving arrays or linked lists.
3. Start with the Brute Force 🛠🐢
Begin with the simplest solution you can think of. Explain:
- 📖 What it does: “I’ll try every possible combination to find the result.”
- 🕒 Time complexity: “This would take O(n²) since I’m checking all pairs.”
- 🧮 Space complexity: “It uses O(1) extra space since I’m not storing anything additional.”
Don’t dwell here too long— may be 5-10 minutes just a stepping stone to the optimal solution.
4. Think About the Optimal Solution 🚀🔧
The interview has likely chosen this problem to assess your understanding of these specific techniques:
- 🪟 Sliding window
- 📊 Sorting + two pointers
- ➕ Prefix sums
- 🌀 Stacks
- 🏗 Queues
💡 Pro tip: Use the problem type to guide your approach.
If you’re stuck, don’t panic. Ask yourself:
- 🤔 “If it’s a subarray problem, can I optimize it using sliding window?”
- 🤔 “Would sorting the input help simplify the logic?”
- 🤔 “Can I solve it with two pointers if the data is sorted?”
- 🤔 “Would prefix sums help me quickly calculate cumulative values?”
- 🤔 “Is this a stack-friendly problem, like one with nested structures or monotonicity?”*
- 🤔 “Does the problem involve processing elements in sequence? If so, can I use a queue?”*
- 🤣 “Can I solve this with a hashmap? It always feels like a cheat code!”*
And if you’re still out of ideas, ask for a hint:
- 🙋♂️ “I’m not seeing the connection. Could you give me a small hint?”
- i am thinking of using prefix sum but i have some problem with this this can u give hint with this
- but be active please in the case of u being active the interview might breth some important things
5. Manage Your Time ⏰📉
Keep an eye on the clock. If you have only 10–15 minutes left and are still brainstorming, implement something, even if it’s the brute force solution.
⚠️ Remember: A working solution, even if not optimal, is better than no solution at all.
6. Communicate Before You Code 🗣💻
Talk—don’t stay silent. Walk through your thought process before jumping into code:
- ✨ “I’ll start by sorting the array and then use two pointers to find pairs that meet the condition.”
This lets the interviewer understand your plan and provide feedback early if needed.
7. Write Clean, Readable Code 🧹📐
While coding:
- 🏷 Use descriptive variable names (*
- 📏 Follow proper indentation and formatting.
If you forget a syntax detail, don’t hesitate to ask:
- 💬 “What’s the syntax for appending to a list in Python?”
- 💬 “What’s the syntax fordeleting from dictionary?”
8. Explain as You Code (or After) 💬🖋
If the code is long, explain each section as you write it:
- 🔍 “This loop iterates through the array to find the maximum sum.”
If the code is short, summarize it after you finish writing.
9. Test Your Code 🧪✅
Once your code is done, test it against a few cases. Check for:
- ⚪️ Edge cases: Empty arrays, single-element arrays, etc.
- ⚙️ Performance: Large inputs or extreme values.
10. Wrap It Up with Confidence 🎯💪
After testing, summarize your results:
- 🏁 “The code handles all edge cases and runs in O(n) time.”
💖 Good luck—you’ve got this! 🎉
