Expect the last remaining part of the Southern Donetsk front to fall apart in the next 4-6 months. There are very few defensive fortifications here, and the natural geography does not favour Ukraine.

Geolocated footage indicates that Russian forces eliminated the Southern Kurakhove pocket, and captured the villages of Hannivka, Veselyi hai and Trudove.

After encircling the Ukrainian garrison in Hannivka, Russian forces advanced, probably from multiple directions, eliminating the pocket. They also completed the capture of Veselyi Hai by advancing from their positions in the east of the village to the western outskirts.

Once these tasks were completed, Russian forces began active assault operations in the direction of the Ukrainian stronghold southwest of Upsenivka. They were able to occupy this strongpoint and then conducted a mechanised assault towards the bridge - the result of which is currently unknown.

Geolocated footage indicates that russian forces continue to advance in Kursk Oblast, but this time have made much more substantial progress than usual.

After likely eliminating the main Ukrainian spearhead in the salient, Russia then turned to its western flank, advancing across the open fields to the forests in the low-lying ground. Russian infantry then cleared the Ukrainian positions here and reached the outskirts of the village of Kurglen'koe.

Now that the Russians hold the high ground, assault operations on the Ukrainian-held stronghold village of Malaya Locknya will become much easier as they can advance on the village from both the east and the west.

There are differing reports coming out of Makarivka.

Deepstate reported that Russian forces expanded their bridgehead on the western bank of the Mokri Yaly river, further tightening their operational encirclement of the AFU, whereas Suriyak reported that Ukraine was able to withdraw from the village to avoid encirclement.

The SBU is reportedly behind today’s IED bombing in Moscow, which resulted in the death of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the commander of the Russian Armed Force’s Radiological, Chemical, and Biological (CBR) Defence Unit, as well as his assistant.

Senior U.S. officials to the WSJ: "Turkey and its militia allies are building up forces along the border with Syria, raising alarm that Ankara is preparing for a large-scale incursion into territory held by the SDF".

- quantity of defensive fortifications
- quality of defensive fortifications
- Natural geography (eg. tactical heights & rivers)
- Production rates to sustain a war of attrition
- Economic growth
- Good wages for soldiers
- Morale
- Technological advantages
- Size of the country (at least in the case of Ukraine)
- RELIABLE allies
- Spheres of influence
- Natural resources
- Trade routes

And much, much more.

Don't think that just because people are saying that "RuSSia oNlY aDvAncEd aN aVerAgE oF 200 MeTReS PeR dAy" that it means that this will stay the same forever.

It's not that simple.

1 Russian Tu-95ms aircraft departed from Olenya airbase in Murmansk Oblast a short while ago and is flying south towards Engels-2 airbase in Saratov Oblast, presumably for the purpose of being equipped with Kh-101 cruise missiles. I expect it will return to Olenya within the next 36 hours.
