And I'm not going to talk about the Ukrainian flag raises to deny claims of Russian advances in the Dobropillya direction, because they - just like the Russian flag raises - are irrelevant.

Flag raising from both sides means literally nothing, and do not prove control over anything. In reality, the frontline in this sector (and many others) is a massive grey and infiltration zone, filled with mixed and overlapping positions held by small groups of soldiers from both sides. Anyone can send out a small group of infiltrators to a location behind the other's "lines" and raise a flag in front of a drone.

Russia doesn't control Dobropillya, but neither does Ukraine. I still believe that Ukraine likely has more soldiers in the city than Russia at this moment, but it would be incorrect to label the city as "Ukrainian controlled" due to this expanding grey-zone and infiltration zone.

Expectations vs. Reality.

Russian Chief of the General Staff Gerisamov claims that Russian forces are now just 5km from the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia City.

In reality, fighting is still ongoing for the village of Plavni - 25 km from the outskirts of the city. This is also confirmed by multiple Russian channels, who report continued attempts to dislodge Ukrainian forces from their positions in this area.

Gerisamov also claimed that Russian forces captured Malokaterynivka, where not a single Russian soldier has even entered the town for around two months. The only times Russian soldiers have been recorded in the town were two instances of DRGs operating there, including one a couple months ago, and another at around the beginning of 2026.

How it started vs how its going

The Russian Ministry of Defence issued a statement regarding their overnight drone attacks on Ukraine.

They claim that strikes targeted a Nova Poshta logistics centre in Rivne City, which was allegedly used to store and distribute dual-use goods, including components for mid-to-long-range drones.

The MoD also claims that a barge was hit around 30 km east of Odesa Port in the western Black Sea, which was allegedly transporting military and dual-use cargo.

Ukrainian channel "Supernova+" reports that some of the Ukrainian drones used in today's massive attack on St Petersburg flew through Estonian and Latvian airspace.

Earlier, air raid alerts were issued in Lithuania and Latvia following reports of drone flights within their airspace.

Russian Geran-4 jet-drones struck three more Ukrainian locomotives, in Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa Oblasts.
