Several hours ago, two posts were made by the Ukrainian SBU-affiliated channel Nikolaevsky Vanek stating that a 72-hour ceasefire had been ordered, starting from midnight on September 5. He claimed that it had been suddenly ordered in connection with theโ€ฆ
Additional information regarding the so-called 3-day "ceasefire" in Ukraine.

It appears that the second of the two candidate possibilities I proposed in my original post on the matter was the case.

A ceasefire order was given to higher commanders of the Ukrainian military, however it seems to have mainly been extended to just units responsible for mid-range and long-range drone strikes, rather than those fighting on the frontline. Usual fighting and shelling continued throughout the line of contact during the night and morning hours.

Ukrainian mid-to-long-range drone units largely adhered to the ceasefire order, which Ukrainian media claimed was proposed by the Ukrainian side to facilitate the arrival of U.S. envoy to Putin Steve Witkoff and U.S. Special Envoy for Peace Jared Kushner to Kyiv by air on Sunday (who will propose a new peace plan to end the war).

This is evidenced by the online scoreboard of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces showing "0" for each category of targets hit today. Additionally, Russian military-linked channels report extremely low Ukrainian drone activity, with no reports of Ukrainian drones in rear Russian regions past midnight.

Russia rejected the ceasefire deal almost immediately, and carried out their pre-planned ballistic missile strikes on the Kamianske Metallurgical Plant in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, and Geran-2/4 drone strikes on targets across various other regions. This morning, Ukrainian units received orders to resume mid-to-long-range drone strikes on Russian targets.

Zelensky announced that in response to Russian attacks on Zhulanyi, Hostomel, and (allegedly) Boryspil Airports in Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine will be "adjusting" their operations against Russian airspace next week.

He reiterated his earlier statement about Russian airspace becoming dangerous due to the presence of Ukrainian drones and missiles in the sky, but emphasised that "there are and will be no threats to diplomacy" from Ukraine. He claimed that these Russian attacks are demonstrative, and a reaction to the preparations of U.S. delegations landing in Kyiv by air for the first time since the beginning of the war.

Zelensky's repeated warnings regarding the flights of commercial airliners into Ukrainian airspace have all stopped short of direct threats of attacking civilian aviation infrastructure, but signalled a change in Ukrainian strategy that could put these airliners at increased risk. Such changes could include the targeting of airports used by these airliners.

Ukraine has begun installing anti-drone measures at the surviving petrol stations in Kharkiv Oblast, designed to cause Russian FPV drones to detonate before impacting the station, while still allowing vehicles to drive in and out.

These sort of protective measures will not prevent Russian FPV drones from impacting the roof of the station (although this would result in less severe damage), and won't do much against Geran-2/Gerbera drones or Geran-4 jet-drones.
