⚡️🇺🇸🇦🇫FT: Afghanistan’s Taliban government is offering the U.S. access to the country’s vast mineral resources as it seeks sanctions relief and the release of frozen Afghan assets.

Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi says Kabul would “absolutely” welcome U.S. investment in mining, infrastructure, agriculture and trade, arguing that future U.S.-Afghan relations should be based on economic co-operation rather than the past two decades of war.

U.S. and Afghan geological surveys have estimated that Afghanistan holds at least $1 trillion in mineral resources. The Taliban is also seeking the release of roughly $9.5 billion in Afghan central bank reserves held abroad, including about $7 billion in the U.S.
