Today (March 31), Hezbollah published a total of 45 statements regarding recent operations targeting Israel and the IDF in Israel and southern Lebanon, up from yesterday's 43.

This brings their total stated operations since the beginning of the war to 1,142, with an average of 39.38 per day since March 2.

Note: Hezbollah only announces a small fraction of the total operations carried out against the IDF, and often combines multiple attacks into one statement. This graph only counts total Hezbollah statements.

Claims of Hezbollah counterattacks in southern Lebanon are false.

Hezbollah largely operates as a guerrilla army, especially following recent IRGC-assisted restructuring into thousands of independent cells. They do not carry out counterattacks to take and hold territory. The closest thing to this would be Hamas-style hit-and-run raids against IDF positions and command posts.

Additionally, the areas that Hezbollah had allegedly recaptured (northern Khiam and Qanatra) are areas never controlled by the IDF in the first place, and only experienced raids and clashes.

🇱🇧🇮🇱 - Note, the definition of a 'Hezbollah counterattack' does not mean Hezbollah units have entrenched themselves on the 'recaptured' land - as certain channels (mainly fixated on counting the number of different types of Russian drones in Ukrainian airspaces) claim. This is obviously not Russia-Ukraine.

The counteroffensive refers to Hezbollah's ability to redeploy its units, in this case the Khiam Brigades, to inside of the town and carry out ambushes / raids. A similar case was observed last night, when the Naqoura Unit launched an ambush on an IDF patrol with the support of FPVs last night - which Rerum Novarum reported first, Hezbollah confirmed later. There were no Hezbollah operations in the Naqoura area for well over 24 hours prior to last night's ambush.

Also to note, IDF has no solidified control of any of the southern Lebanese territory - the markings indicate a presence of Israeli troops / areas of Israeli operations.

A counterattack is a universal term, which implies territory being recaptured or attempted to be recaptured. The claim that Israel does not have stable control over any territory in southern Lebanon is very misleading, as Israel has set up numerous command posts and armoured vehicle bases in Lebanese territory.

Northern Khiam and Qanatra didn't have any permanent IDF presence, therefore there was nothing to recapture. Because Hezbollah operates as a guerrilla army, maneuvering cells into towns that aren't held by Israel for hit and run attacks is its primary function. They have been doing this since day 1 and will continue to do so. None of these are counterattacks, some of them may be raids.
