中共二十大今早10時揭幕，到下周六（22日）閉幕。中共中央總書記習近平回顧過去五年工作時提到香港，指動盪局勢下據《憲法》及《基本法》實施全面管治權，落實「愛國者治港」，香港不但由亂到治，更邁進由治及興的新階段。至於兩岸關係，習近平稱將爭取和平統一，促進兩岸經濟文化交流，但決不承諾放棄使用武力的可能，「祖國完全統一一定要實現，也一定能夠實現。」

帶領中國共產黨召開第20屆全國代表大會的習近平主席，是自從毛澤東之後中國最有權勢的人物。習近平十年前開展執政時的願景是「中華民族偉大復興」願景，這些年亦看到中國的軍事實力和全球經濟影響力呈現倍數的擴張。但是習近平也更改了中共的黨章，允許自己獲得前所未有的第三個任期——基本上有效地終身執政。中國恢復到強人統治，使國內的鎮壓和國外的敵對關係又回到了更早的時代。
Communist Party General Secretary and Chinese President Xi Jinping heads into the 20th National Congress of the CCP as the most powerful leader of China since Mao Zedong. Xi came to power 10 years ago touting his vision for the "Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation" and the decade saw China's military power and global economic clout multiply. But Xi also changed CCP rules to allow himself an unprecedented third term—effectively ruling for life—and China's reversion to strongman rule has brought back repression at home and hostile relations abroad that hark back to an earlier era.
