You talk about your King's read for a minute or more (did you like it, was it scary, your favourite part, how was the discussion, the reading, etc)

In the end we will be compiling and editing the entire video for our Youtube Channel.

What do you need to do?

β€’ Record a video in a landscape mode (horizontal) talking about the book you read.

β€’ Try and send it by 25th October.

β€’ How to send the video? - Upload it on Google Drive and DM me the video link.

β€’ Editing and compilation will be done by us so you don't have to worry about anything.

This isn't compulsory.. just a fun thing we are planning to do.

Hello nerds! I am sure you are excited to read Sapiens and might have already started reading it.

If not, here is a video for everyone of Harari talking about why do humans run the world.

This TED video is really fun, informative and kind of the summary to this book. I think that this video might make you more excited to read the entire book or give you the push to pick it up and start reading it!

Harari talks about religion, social behaviour, fictional reality, legal rights, politics and more in this 17 minutes long video. πŸ“š

Discussion #1 The White Tiger - Chapter 1 (till page 42)

β€’ Did you feel offended at any point in while reading the 1st chapter?

β€’ On page 15, the writer wrote "One fact about India is that you can take almost anything you hear about the country from the Prime Minister and turn it upside down and then you will have the truth about that thing."

What is your opinion on it?
(Side information - When this book was published, Man Mohan Singh was our PM)
Discussion #2 // Poverty, Democracy, China, Voting and the storyline.

We have read a roughly over 100 pages of this book which by far and large emphasises the immorality of the rich and the poor in a democracy.

As in China, there is very little freedom for the poorest people, the servants who struggle with an oppressive and ancient caste system, and an enriched ruling class that has all the hallmarks of a dictatorship.

β€’ Why do you think that, out of all the people in the world, are the letters addressed to The Premier?

β€’ Adiga has so far criticized everything which needs to be criticized.
But do you think that it is 'too much of it' and that the storyline is not particularly progressing?

(people who are yet to read the book upto Chapter 3, skip this discussion to stay away from the spoilers)

(if you've read beyond Chapter 3, try not to give spoilers for the once who are reading it as per the schedule)

Discuss #TheWhiteTiger // Freedom, Corruption, Gandhi, Privileged ones and the others.

We are done reading over 200 pages and we still don't the answer to the question we have been asking since the 1st Chapter.

Taking forward our discussion, here are few prompts to talk and discuss about.

(there are 7 main questions to set the theme. you can start with any which anyone of them.)

1. "Free people don't know the value of freedom, that's the problem." (page 118)
This quote might most probably have had you thinking. Do you think we are free? Or is Freedom an illusion created by the people in the society?

2. On page 136, last line, Pinky Madam says "We're driving past Gandhi, after just having given a bribe to a minister. It's a fucking joke, isn't it."
A little off topic but yet related, what are your views/opinions on Gandhi's teachings? Was he the way he was as described in the books or is it a hoax created by the government?

3. On page 155, we read about the 'Pijja/Pzijja/Pizja' conversation. What was Adiga trying to highlight here?

4. Pinky Madam hits a child and the family to save their reputation blames it all on Balram. Balram, on the other hand did not say anything agaisnt the same. Were you surprised at the actions of either? Did the same make you feel angry on the privileged ones and pity the ones who had to take the fall?

5. What are your views on how women are talked about in this book?
On page 215, we read that a politician is mocking Ashok for 'being faithful' and linking it to end up with a divorce.
Where do women stand in this society? Was Aravind Adiga trying to replicate an actual scenario or does it look like he himself did not give it any conscious thought/effort?

6. In the past few pages, we have seen Balram's and Ashok's relationship evolve.
Balram says "where my genuine concern for him ended and where my self-interest began, I could not tell". Where do you think his self-interest begins?

7. What do you think about Balram's Rooster Coop analogy and the role of religion, the political system, and family life in perpetuating this culture?
Around this time, Balram repeats to himself, "I was looking for the key for years / but the door was always open"?
