๐Ÿฆ‹"The breeding male ploceine typically has bright yellow markings, is polygynous, and makes a nest that resembles an upside-down flask, with a bottom entrance, which may be a sort of tube. He attracts females by hanging upside down from the nest while calling and fluttering his wings.๐Ÿ”…

๐Ÿ“ฑEssential Roots ๐Ÿ“ฑ
๐Ÿ”ฐStrengthen your vocabulary by learning critical word roots. ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ”ฐMemorize the following ๐Ÿ”Ÿ word roots to expand your vocabulary:

1๏ธโƒฃ ANTHROP - human. E.g.: a) anthropology - study of human beings; b) misanthrope - person who dislikes humans.

๐Ÿ’ขFor notes ๐Ÿ“:
โœ…Word roots are the basic parts of meaning in words and are often derived from Greek and Latin.

โœ…They can sometimes stand on their own, but their meaning changes when combined with prefixes and suffixes.

โœ…Learning the meaning of different word roots will help you make educated guesses about the meaning of unfamiliar words, and you'll begin to see commonalities among words that share the same root.

๐Ÿ”ฐSome common word roots are:

๐Ÿ”…-geo: earth
e.g.: geology

๐Ÿ”…-photo: light
e.g.: photographer

๐Ÿ”…-aud: to hear and listen
e.g.: auditorium

โ€‹โ€‹๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Popular american slangs from coast to coast

โ›ฑ Slang From the East Coast

The United Statesโ€™ historic East Coast contains many major metropolitan hubs, such as New York City, Boston, and Washington D.C., the United Statesโ€™ capital city.

๐Ÿฆ… Mad โ€“ In New York, mad is an intensifier, which is used as an adverb, much like โ€œveryโ€ or โ€œextremelyโ€. For example, one could say that English grammar is mad difficult.

๐Ÿ˜‘ Sketchy โ€“ A term that originated in Boston but is now used all over the United States, sketchy is a synonym of โ€œsuspiciousโ€ or โ€œout of placeโ€. It can be used to describe a person or an event. For example, if someone rings your doorbell at midnight, thatโ€™s a sketchy situation. And the guy who rang your doorbell is a sketchy person.

๐Ÿฅท Chiefinโ€™ โ€“ This word comes from the United Statesโ€™ capitol, Washington D.C., and means to steal or to not share. Imagine that youโ€™re getting together with your friends, and everyone brings something to eat or drink โ€” except you. Your friends might say that youโ€™re chiefinโ€™ their stuff.

๐Ÿ• Slang From the Midwest
The Midwest, commonly referred to as โ€œAmericaโ€™s Heartlandโ€, is filled with grassy pastures, farmlands, and exceptionally cold winters
.

๐Ÿ˜ Swag โ€“ The word swag actually dates back to the 1500s, when it meant โ€œto move unsteadilyโ€. It was brought back in the 1990s by rappers in Chicago, who used it to describe a confident, stylish attitude. If your friend tells you that youโ€™ve got swag, itโ€™s a compliment.

๐Ÿ’ธ Balla (BAW-luh) โ€“ Detroit, Michigan is one of the most economically depressed cities in the United States. Ironically, itโ€™s also the birthplace of the term balla, which describes somebody who is very wealthy and has a tendency to flaunt that wealth. For instance, if you see somebody wearing a diamond chain and driving a Mercedes, you could describe him as a balla.

๐Ÿ‘ You betcha! โ€“ In Minnesota, people constantly use this quaint expression to express emphatic agreement. If someone from Minnesota asks you, โ€œDo you want to improve your English?โ€, you could respond by saying โ€œYou betcha!โ€

๐Ÿ Slang From the South
From Disney World to Texan ranches, Americaโ€™s South is full of character and personality. Southerners enjoy warm winters and a slower pace of life.

๐Ÿ˜‰ Dale (DAH-lay) โ€“ Native Spanish speakers who are learning English will surely recognize the interjection dale, which means โ€œokayโ€ or โ€œgo aheadโ€. Popularized by rappers and singers like Pitbull, this Spanish word has become a normal part of the English lexicon in Miami.

๐Ÿง  Break Bad โ€“ Those who watch Breaking Bad should know that tobreak bad means to partake in illegal activity, generally for the first time. However, the slang has actually been around in New Mexico for years before the popular TV series made it famous worldwide.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Yโ€™all โ€“ English lacks an official second-person plural pronoun: โ€œyouโ€ refers to both an individual and a group of people. In Texas (and other states in the South), however, there is an unofficial second-person plural pronoun: yโ€™all. You use yโ€™all to address a group of people. Before going out with your friends, you might ask, โ€œAre yโ€™all ready?โ€

โ›ฑ Slang From the Pacific Southwest/West Coast

๐Ÿฅ‚ โ€œWest Coast, Best Coastโ€ โ€” itโ€™s what proud residents of Washington, Oregon, and California say about their homes along the Pacific Ocean.

๐Ÿฅณ Whale โ€“ Las Vegas is known as โ€œSin Cityโ€, and for good reason โ€” itโ€™s full of nightclubs, bars, extravagant shows, and casinos. In Las Vegas, a whale refers to somebody who is going to spend a lot of money at the casino.

๐Ÿค˜ Filthy โ€“ Though you might know filthy to mean dirty and gross, in Seattle, it actually means the opposite: something thatโ€™s filthy is awesome or very cool. โ€œThatโ€™s filthy!โ€ you might say to a friend who just got a promotion at work.

๐Ÿ‘Œ Foโ€™ shizzle (foe-SHIH-zul)- Those familiar with Snoop Doggโ€™s music will recognize foโ€™ shizzle, which is characteristic of Snoop Doggโ€™s manner of speaking. This common west-coast slang expresses affirmation: itโ€™s a synonym of โ€œdefinitelyโ€ or โ€œfor sureโ€.
