This type of dispute and how to resolve it using voluntaryist mediation are a big influence for our rules policy here at BarterTowne:
https://patch.com/new-hampshire/concord-nh/former-rep-candidate-accused-child-sexual-assault-2022-porcfest
While the FSP bans nudity, these court actions seem to indicate fully clothed assaults, sexual or otherwise, were the most harmful personal disputes at PorcFest over the past couple years, not the numerous naked attendees previously allowed to socialize openly (on private property) at the event.
This case highlights the overlap between children and government.

*At-Will INVITATION TO CAMP FREELY*
When you tell people about the gathering, share this entire document first and only vouch for them once they've understood such.
BarterTowne, through our managers,
Invite all our personal friends and acquaintances in good standing who pledge to abide by voluntaryist principles as described by the Shire Society Declaration,
To a Free primitive camping event in the woods of BarterTowne, near Canaan, NH,
Beginning May 1st and ending June 1st.
This MayFest is potentially the greatest community manifestation of Freedom on Earth.

*Enter at your own risk*
This is an at-will free event only for specifically authorized "guests" of BarterTowne, a private event, and you have no "right" to attend without permission.
In consideration for being allowed to attend these Events, you agree to comply with all these conditions.
Everyone must be responsible for their own property and personal actions. Much of the area is unsurveyed, unexplored, and most definitely not under any direct control of management. There are numerous dangers inherent to this type of free camping festival. Management disclaims any liability for any psychological, physical, financial, property damage, or other harms suffered by attendees.
Children under 18 years of age (legal "minors") can attend only if accompanied and constantly supervised by a parent or guardian who ensures their compliance with these terms, taking full responsibility if they are exposed to anything inappropriate or cause harm to others. MINORS ARE STRICTLY REQUIRED TO WEAR CLOTHES IN THE PARKING AREAS, LODGE, AND ANYWHERE ELSE PICTURES OR VIDEOS ARE LIKELY TO BE RECORDED. Unaccompanied or unsupervised minors are NOT ALLOWED. The parents or guardians of minors are strictly liable for any harms caused by or to their minors. BarterTowne management is not responsible for harms caused by *or* to guests, including minors.
You may be offered activities that involve risk of serious injury, including permanent disability, death, property loss, and/or severe social and/or economic losses. You understand these risks may be caused by many factors present such as the rural area, a large attendance, lax or nonexistent regulation or oversight of attendees, which makes this gathering popular as a social experiment. Some of these risks include, but are not limited to, those caused by:
(a) the actions, inactions, or negligence of people such as management, the organizers, volunteers, affiliates, or attendees;
(b) conditions of the premises or equipment used;
(c) rules and regulations or lack thereof;
(d) illnesses, including food-borne illnesses;
(e) weather;
(f) intoxication or any mental or health condition of any attendee;
(g) the carrying and use of firearms and other weapons;
(h) vehicular traffic,
(i) and/or any other risk that may arise from attending.
You further acknowledge and fully understand that there may also be other risks that are not known or foreseeable at this time.
YOU KNOWINGLY AND VOLUNTARILY ASSUME ALL RISK OF PROPERTY LOSS, PERSONAL INJURY, SERIOUS INJURY, OR DEATH, WHICH MAY OCCUR BY ATTENDING MAYFEST, AND HEREBY FOREVER RELEASE, DISCHARGE, AND HOLD ALL OTHERS HARMLESS FROM ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM SUCH RISK, EVEN IF ARISING FROM NEGLIGENCE OR FROM THIRD PARTIES, AND YOU ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY AND LIABILITY FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION AND/OR ATTENDANCE.

You, on behalf of yourself, heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, hereby waive, release, discharge, and agree not to sue the MayFest organizers, volunteers, and any other participants, owners and lessors (collectively the β€œReleasees”), from any and all claims for damages, injuries, losses, liabilities and expenses that may have or that may subsequently accrue to you, relating to, resulting from or arising out of use and/or participation in MayFest, including any activities at the Events, and including any injury or damage to person or property, or to that of any other person or property. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold the Releasees harmless from and against any and all claims by third parties for damages, injuries, losses, liabilities and expenses relating to, resulting from or arising out of participation. You intend that this waiver and release of liability shall be construed broadly to provide a release and waiver to the maximum extent permissible.

*In Summary, you must agree to take personal responsibility for your own health, well-being, and safety as a requirement to attend MayFest*

*Nudity and other non-violent offenses*
We engage in expressive activity which includes full nudity. Such expressive activity is neither indecent nor offensive.
Exercise parental responsibility and control over your minors. If any activity is offensive to you or your minors you can avoid such activity by among other things, leaving the vicinity of the activity or leaving BarterTowne by way of the road. *NOTE* Don't hesitate to call "Shanti Sena" as described in that section if there is any dispute or safety issue, this allows the community to respond and assist in mediating such.

*Parking*
All funds and donations raised by BarterTowne during this event will be directed towards the driveway improvement fund. We've contributed around $2000 each year towards the road and hope to raise that amount this year.
Free night time vehicle parking is available within 150 yards of the town maintained road where the mailboxes are, roughly 0.7 miles from the BarterTowne Resort and campground. Parking on site is available for a fee, please contact management with your vehicle information to negotiate your contribution and secure arrangements for parking your vehicle/s.
Bicycles, motorcycles, and similar low impact or low footprint vehicles are generally free to park on-site.

*Freedom of Association*
MayFest is what everyone who comes makes of it. There is no entry fee to dry camp on our Private Property here and the unposted forests surrounding us.
There are no mandatory costs beyond your personal expenses (food, shelter, medicine, etc.). MayFest is funded entirely by volunteers. One of our strengths is the volunteer energy. The only way something gets done is because people pitch in and offer their time, sweat, resources, and know how to make it happen.
At BarterTowne we've a saying we try to share "Fool Me Once, Shame on You"... Wait, wrong one, I meant: "If I have a need, I will pursue a way to fulfill it through voluntaryism." This philosophy of self-reliance keeps us satiated without burdening others. Only after meeting our own needs can we generate abundance to assist others to fully meet their needs. i.e. Put on your own oxygen mask first!
*Duration*
This Gathering goes on for over 30 days, a temporary utopic social community in nature.
A place to heal, share, love and connect.
You do not have to be anything, know anything, or fit into any typecast of people in order to participate. Just be 100% yourself and respect the human rights of those around you.
We encourage people to prioritize attendance the night of, the week before, and the week after the full moon on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

*So how does it work?
As mentioned above, complete voluntaryism. Everything that will be offered is happening because someone volunteered and put effort into doing it, spending resources to make it available.
During our Hunter's Moon Skill Share gathering we had a consensus to conduct more gatherings here going forward.
Volunteers scouted the surrounding forests for campsites, worked on improving the resort, and generally improved the spaces here for future gatherings. The lodge is set up as a seed camp, don't expect to be granted access into the lodge unless you've pre-negotiated such.
However, free water is available for drinking and bathing courtesy of management's infrastructure investments. The well-water hoses may be limited to daylight hours.
There are also multiple streams available 24/7.
Even more volunteers (you and me) will participate in this gathering and have lots of fun basically.

πŸŸπŸ”πŸ•*KITCHEN*πŸ•πŸ”πŸŸ
The BarterTowne Lodge's kitchen staff will offer meals every day for nominal contributions (roughly 30-60 minutes of labor per serving)! All you need is to give management 24 hours notice, negotiate and perform your agreeable labor for the agreeable food you want, and bring a clean pair of hands when you are ready to be served. The food is voluntarily bought, cooked and served!
*NOTE* - If you are unable to contribute labor, fast for up to 24 hrs prior to being served, or otherwise meet these requirements, please contact a staff member to negotiate for your specific needs.

*TECHNOLOGY*
Trying to live simply and more connected with the earth we ask each other not to use: Amplified speakers, disturbing lights, or other excess noises at night such as from loud cars, motorbikes, loud generators etc. Please leave out anything that may interfere with your neighbor's rest. Save that stuff for the day time.
Guests may use video and photographic cameras in community areas when notice is reasonably given to others. BarterTowne has no liability due to such filming, photographing, or dissemination.

*MAIN FIRE CIRCLE & WORKSHOPS*
The main fire is the heart of the MayFest gathering. This is where we gather. We may sing songs, dance, chant 'Aum' together, and otherwise enjoy each other's energy. The fire is sacred for many of us. Approach it with an open heart and feed it well. The fire is a good place to make announcements about any workshop you wanna give, work that needs another's help to be done, or anything else our tribe should know about!
Yes workshops / talks / initiatives of any kind are most welcome and are big part of what makes BarterTowne special. We come together to share knowledge, ideas, and skills so don't be shy and show us what you've got!
*HYGIENE*πŸ›€
Brothers, sisters, and friends, let us not be a bunch of dirty little hippies in the forest. If anything let us be clean!
Seriously; many people living, eating, shitting outdoors for a month, if we don't keep ourselves clean we will get sick. And in a camp of togetherness, hugs and connection; sickness spreads fast.
A few guidelines:
*Ashes from the fires, soapy water, or similar disinfectants are used to wash hands and dishes. Keep clean! Always wash your hands and do not leave your dishes out unwashed.
*Working in the kitchen or serving food you must keep extra clean. ask a bro/sis/friend to show you how to do it.
*Cover your shit! Always cover your shit with some ash to break the shit-flies-food chain and then wash your hands with ash or soapy water. A community toilet is available in the woods using a trench system. Please use the seat and direct your waste into the trench then cover it with some ash and mulch after each deposit.
I love my tribe so I wash my hands!

*CONSENSUS*
Every solution regarding tribal issues is made *AFTER* reviewing the factual basis. We sit in a circle, everyone is given a chance to talk and an agreement is made such that everyone satisfied with the decision. Respect each other.

*SHANTI SENA*πŸ†˜
Conflicts, aggression, and miscommunications have been in our lives. The big difference is how we deal with them as an intentional community.
There is no valid authority without recognizing human rights, contractual consent, or a valid delegation of such. We reject coercive policing or non-consensual statutory law enforcement.
Nobody is qualified more than ourselves to keep ourselves peaceful.
If an overwhelming issue occurs or a bro/sis/friend feels unsafe for some reason, PLEASE shout "Shanti Sena" to request assistance!
A conflict resolution effort will be made to solve the issue in a loving and respectful manner!
It's not magic but it works. Our tribe can turn big dramas into hugs through these methods.
We are the peace keepers and we are blessed.

🚯*LEAVE NO TRACE*
We commit to respect and heal the land. When the gathering ends we will not leave the land until it is even cleaner than before. The cleanup starts when you arrive. Collect your trash. if you brought something in, anything, make sure you take it out. Absolutely nothing stays behind except what is composted. Also go beyond by picking up trash you accidentally dropped but didn't notice.

ALWAYS IGNORE ALL RUMORS OF CANCELLATION

We invite all our friends to visit under these terms.
The bus line comes to/from Canaan and we could pick up/drop off guests from there.

Next Thursday May 23rd's Flower Moon Field Day here at BarterTowne is an opportunity for people to enjoy outdoor recreation in a free society, a stark contrast from servile society.
We'll provide activities for people to try out such as axe and sledge swinging, creek jumping, log tossing, and more but we'd love for people to bring their favorite outdoor activities to share and offer to others.
See our terms of use conditions and disclaimers posted above May 12th.
Kaji has many projects going beyond keeping our BnB open and accessible to those who want higher value accommodations from camping freely. Please message her to discuss booking a visit here.
We're planning a dip in the stream Friday May 24th, a firing range day Saturday May 25th, divinity studies every Sunday, and we start our workweek Mondays around 9:30AM. Contractors please get here by 9AM on a Monday to get scheduled with work that week.
We're setting up a lumber mill next as the foundation to move forward on some construction projects using our own boards. Self sufficiency and mutual value is our goals here.
