Co-anchor Craig Melvin asked Gore if he thought the average person in the country understood the crisis and lamented that there was still a lack of understanding. It seemed as though they were implying that those who don’t agree with their narrative are just not smart enough to comprehend it. Gore responded by saying that “most people” do understand and that “mother nature is the most persuasive” in getting people to understand. He then went on a hyperbolic rant, equating the extra heat energy trapped by pollution to “750,000 Hiroshima-class atomic bombs exploding every day.” Without questioning or fact-checking this wild claim, co-anchor Sheinelle Jones exclaimed, “Wow!” and Gore added, “It’s hard to wrap my head around a number that big.”
