This week, the social media platform took down an intercepted video of a leaked conversation between then-Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and then-U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt, in which the two discuss who will lead a new government just weeks before the violent coup against Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. The video had been up for eight years. “By shamelessly censoring the truth behind the U.S. state department’s role in a coup against a democratically elected foreign head of state, YouTube has outed itself, once again, as nothing more than an extension of the neoliberal order,” said Ben Swann, Sovren founder and CEO. “Moments like this are precisely why Sovren is stepping up to provide truth-oriented individuals with a place where they can create and connect free from Silicon Valley’s tyranny.” Bring Our Troops Home, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending American involvement in endless foreign wars, published the video to Sovren, where it will remain protected from Orwellian Big Tech suppression. The BBC originally published the transcript in February 2014—just 14 days before Yanukovych was overthrown.
