But sadly, violence is also the only way of self-defense from other people's violence, at least after someone steps out of being under the illusion that all authorities are benevolent protectors. But of course, self-defense isn't a thing that has the same definition for everyone - right-wing will tell you that oppression and discrimination is not violence and therefore does not need self-defense :)
