Is Eva nonbinary because of unresolved issues regarding Kinzo and his need for a male heir? ——— Hi! I meant to answer this wayyy back when I first got this ask, but I put it off and forgot 💔 Anyway, I want to start with: obviously she/they Eva is more just a personal hc, and like everything else in Umineko, you can easily interpret things in various different ways, etc etc, obligatory disclaimer and whatnot lol. With that said, I know you definitely didn't mean anything ill by it and i'm not yelling at you for this, but it's a little "ehhh" to suggest she might be nonbinary just 'because of a man' (her father). If she's possibly not cis or has any questioning about her own gender, then it was already going to be a part of her, and anything outside of that might just influence it further. Again, it's one of those things you can easily read in different ways, but when i see that one screenshot of her going, "I've never once thought of myself as a woman!" It just feels very sudden and out of nowhere even in the context of the scene, and also basically confirms she's always felt that way ever since she was young. Eva definitely seems like she's always had a very messy relationship with her gender, in part because of her general upbringing, but also i've grown to just get that vibe from her. Also, I know the whole point is supposed to be "women can do what men do too, but society prevents them and holds them back", which is why i included the whole disclaimer part and how certain lines can easily be interpreted different ways, but in a story that ends up focusing so much on gender with other characters, it's not too far-fetched to apply the same thoughts and ideas to others in the cast, in this case being Eva. Eva would probably be the type to never know what 'non-binary' means (especially given the time frame), and probably scoff at it, but if someone explained it to her, I could imagine her pausing and being like, "...Wait, that actually resonates with me some."
