The Ukrainian Armed Forces have run out of missiles for the SAMP-T anti-aircraft batteries supplied by Italy and France. Ukraine has also not received ammunition for the French-made Crotale air defense system for a long time, Le Monde writes, citing a source.
To cope with massive drone attacks, Ukraine needs many more long-range systems such as Patriot, Iris-T and SAMP-T, the publication quotes a Ukrainian officer as saying.
"Today we have nothing to protect southern Ukraine from ballistic missiles," the officer said.
According to another Le Monde source, "Ukraine no longer has missiles for its two SAMP-T batteries and has not received a single missile in a year and a half for the Crotale short-range anti-aircraft system."
In mid-March, the newspaper Corriere della Sera reported that two SAMP-T air defense batteries in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces had almost exhausted their supply of missiles.
And now Rubio says that Kiev is asking Washington for Patriot air defense systems, which the US does not have.
