Zilfam! Today marks 7 incredible years since the inception of Zilliqa! 🎉🎉

From pioneering sharding to spearheading a new vision for Web3 with Zilliqa 2.0, we've come a long way. Let's take a stroll down memory lane and revisit the biggest milestones from each year!

Zilliqa is Born - 2017

Zilliqa was founded by a team of researchers from the National University of Singapore, the first protocol to use sharding for scalability.

2018

In 2018, the Zilliqa testnet launched, bringing the sharding scaling architecture to a public network for the first time.

2019

2019 saw the official public launch of the Zilliqa mainnet as well as Scilla, the secure-by-design smart contract language used for building decentralised applications.

2020

In its third year, Zilliqa made important improvements, including the introduction of staking. We also saw the launch of ZilSwap as the first Zilliqa-based DEX!

2021

With DeFi adoption growing and our tech stack being steadily improved, Zilliqa saw an impressive number of new applications enter the ecosystem in 2021, including several new projects that would continue to grow in the years ahead.

2022

Testnet launch of EVM compatibility, signalling exciting things to come.

2023

Zilliqa's sixth year was among its most formative, with a major focus on interoperability that brought EVM compatibility to the mainnet. We also saw Google Cloud join the network as an SSN operator and more details were teased about Zilliqa 2.0.

2024

As we celebrate our seventh birthday, we are currently witnessing one of the most exciting years in Zilliqa's history. The whitepaper for Zilliqa 2.0 is now live and reveals an upgraded blockchain that will unlock an exciting new chapter for our community!
