A new Zilliqa Improvement Proposal (ZIP-21) has just been published, detailing how Zilliqa EVM can invoke fungible token contracts written in Scilla.

This means that ZRC-2 tokens can now appear as ERC-20 tokens to other contracts, bringing improved interoperability to the Zilliqa EVM network and allowing fungible tokens written in Scilla to be transacted as EVM-compatible tokens.

July was an important month for Zilliqa, marking the 6th anniversary of the blockchain and seeing a number of important steps forward for the network being made.

These included two major proposals being passed to deliver more sustainable rewards and governance, enhanced interoperability between Scilla and EVM , and the rollout of the first-ever Zilliqa debit cards.

The latest version of the Scilla plugin for Hardhat has been released, bringing helpful new features to devs building EVM dApps on the Zilliqa network.

The plugin allows Scilla contracts to be tested in the same way that developers would use ethers.js for Solidity, and version 3.4.8 now allows users to run Scilla tools using containers, removing the need to build Scilla executables explicitly.

It has been a productive and exciting August for the Zilliqa ecosystem. The major highlight from the last month was the formation of the Zilliqa Group, a corporate structure that unlocks a framework for integrated ventures building exciting solutions on the Zilliqa network.
